I posted a thread on the main forum page telling about my new discovery of kukri's.It is titled ''The perfect knife". I'm afraid I want to collect these knives modestly.I do however, have a considerable number of questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1)I want a mk1 first and foremost. How do I avoid getting jipped.I am aware it has a steel bolster and ebay is full of Indian knives.I purchased a Bhojpure from AC and seem to have done quit well with the hand select option. This knife is supposedly 1890's or earlier. When I figure up how to post photos I would like to post, gotta clean it up though.
2) The Bhojpure has a symbol and no buttplate,dosent a mk1 have a buttplate?
3) How is the handle attached to this knife,is it laha?
4)On a mk1 do they have female threads in the handle and then hand cut screws?
5)The AC knives listed as ww1 issue arent mk1's are they,if not(I know their not)what is the difference?
6)Arent some mk's sirupate and others more of a Angkhola style blade?
7)WHAT NUMBERS AND SYMBOLS TO LOOK FOR?
8)Where are these symbols located?
9)Is it possible my Bhojpure was made in India?

Eventually I would like all five mk's and all the AC inventory knives they advertiseThanks for the help..

Moving this to the Cantina, as there is no Himalayan Imports content.

Meanwhile here are some links to start you off. I would also suggest using the "search this forum" function at the top right of the page and using google, although google is likely, as often as not, to lead you right back here.

Thanks Karda,Im quit new to this.By the way I researched HI a good bit shoulve put some of that in the post.

HI is the only company in the world that makes knives like HI , accept no imitations, that being said, IMA and AC both have authentic khukuri of the victorian era as they purchased the armory in a shadey deal after the nepalese royal family was wiped out probably by the uncle who made a boat load of money from it but they blamed a "crazy son with a machine gun" -- but all that aside, yes the blade is authentic , and yes HI is the only company that actually makes modern knives worth buying.

Ive heard of HI making a knife that cuts up steel drums n used cars,of course this is abuse but the fact that it is capable of this is amazing!Ive got a mass production knife for my work but I want a handmade for hunting just for the looks and feel.

its just that HI overbuilds their knives, you will damage the knife from mistreating it and pushing its limits, like any tool it is best used for its purpose , but yeah they have done all kinds of things, I would just do yourself a favor and save up for one, they may not seem possible, but there really is no steel like it, and you won't understand till you hold one :D-- but there is volumes of research on how to recognize what is real and from when, and its a skill all its own, decide what you like and read and read and read about it, look at lots of museum pictures and authenticated collections, eventually you will start to get a concept for what you should look for. military Khukuri from ww 1 and ww2 is very popular, I know I love it

Thanks Gehazi. I had my eye on a peice on ebay and was the winning bidder until the last 5 seconds.Im not very savvy with ebay and guess I didnt refresh. Anyway, wouldve had it for 25.50 but it sold for 55.00.Sure looked military issue.Had steel bolster and the handle looked military. The scabbard was nice and had some designs but not hammed up like cheap Indian tourist models. The picture is still there on my screen as sold if you or anyone can look at it(provided its not just on my screen because I bid on it).I would love to get an opinion to see if I was abouut to get ripped off or make a good choice. It sold on jan 13 and was sold by shamona antiques. Also what HI knife would you suggest for hunting self-defense situations.

a great piece of advice for antiques hunting on ebay is look for misspelled versions of your antiques, or even " antique knife " sometimes people who find these things have zero idea of what they are, I got an authentic ww2 for only 35 dollars because they listed it in an odd spot and didnt put khukuri in the listing , he thought it was old tourist khukuri so did not give any thought. a good way to recognize the british stuff is by the kinds of pins they used on the grip.

the HI I would suggest is a KVLUK for quickness and tool use
the best all rounder is probably a CAK ( chiruwa ang khola ) or a M43 ( very popular and will be available later this year, they get sold fast)
that aside though I have had great luck with a sirupati as my main use blade, in the case of self defense I say carry a gun :D

ebay hunting is fun and you can find real prizes, but if you really want authentic antiques, just go to one of the reputable dealers, everyone has a reason to fake these things , and only people who have a reputation have a reason not too( to preserve reputation)

Thats sounds like good advice Gehazi.Bt the way ,do you know the difference between a mk1 and one of those AC knives they list as ww1 Im not talking about the Bjohpure they have one that says ww1 Gurka or something.

ac knives are all from the nepali royal armory , bought in 2003 by IMA and AC, the ww1 knife is different, but I only really am familiar with ww2 and victorian

Great advices on looking for misspelled.

I did hit the jackpot couples of times using this very same technique.
