Maybe a silly beginner question? Leather molding....

Hey guys. I am relatively new to leather working, and I am trying to learn everything i can. Everytime I see someone molding leather, they are usually using tools. But, is there a way to make a press? like the ones used for kydex? This way we wouldn't have to spend so much time pressing every little spot on the sheath? Or does this exist and i maybe missed it somewhere? Thanks, I wouldn't mind trying something like this.

I know that some who make lots of gun holsters use a similar type press, but the results I see from them are just a good starting point, hand tools are still needed to complete the job. I don't see that they are all that effective unless you are in a higher production type situation.......certainly not for someone just starting out. Just my take on it.

True story there ^. Short cuts in leather work can frequently yield lesser results and then take even more time to correct the deficiencies.

Dave , just my 2 cents, but , do yourself a favor and get the basic video offered in the post above. Paul will not brag about it, but I will. You will be light years ahead vs. trying to do it by trial and error. Ted

I have seen at least one maker talk about pressing, under pretty dang high pressure. But it seemed like the intent was not necessarily to make the leather form better, but to really compress and make stiffer the leather he was using.
