Why is there not a Benchmade forum on this BB? I see many people here own and like Benchmade knives. Why then is there no forum for them when I see forums for other manufactuers on here. Am I missing something? If I am missing something obvious I apologize. I am just curious. Thanks.

Thanks you, I did not realise that the manufactuers were required to start their own forum. This make some sense I guess. Most of the forums that I am involed in (mostly gun forums) start thier own sections. For example glock talk members who get enough votes can start thier own forums. This to me seems to create a much more impartial (No manufatuer sponsored) place to post thoughts and opinions. Having a manufactuer run these forums seems like it would produce a much more biased situation. Maybe I am wrong. This just seems to be a more unique situation and something that is diffrent from what I am used to.

Maybe I am wrong. IF so again I apologize. I am the new guy here I know.

It's a different situation. If you want unbiased opinions look here in Blade Discussion or in the Knife Reviews & Testing forum. (Not that everybody is unbiased, but you can read them all and decide for yourself what you think....)

The manufacturers' forums give you a chance to talk directly to the manufacturers, let them know what you think, ask them questions.

Valid points ddj8052.

If the manufacturer participates in a forum here they gain access to a wider consumer base. Number one reason for a manufacturer to establish an online presence is to increase profits. Starting a forum here grants you a larger consumer base in which to attract new business. Additionally they can establish new leads which can be turned into new consumers. Also it is another forum to better serve your existing consumer base.

Yes, it is biased. If it is handled correctly, it will provide a highly informative source of information (advertising) straight from the manufacturer to the interested consumer. The Internet is the best form of advertising for companies today. Unlike T.V. advertising, it allows consumer participation. Of course you better be providing a good product or it will shoot you in the foot from negative posts. An example of this is on this forum under "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" forum. There is a post over there on a knife maker named Allan Blade that discusses the fact he takes forever to deliver a knife. Based on that you would be wise not to give him any money upfront. Another example is how active Sal Glesser from Spyderco is on these boards.

The Internet is the T.V. commercial of the future. More companies need to learn this.

You got that right my friend.

I don't know why people don't realize this.

My wife and I don't watch news on TV and rarely watch real "TV". I get what I want off the web and I watch what I want when I want to, instead of at the schedule of the big TV companies.

;)

What you need my friend is a DVR, like TiVo. Record the programs you want to see, view them when you want to view them, and skip the commercials. Combine that with a satelite dish and you are no longer at the mercy of anyone.

Back on topic. The internet puts companies in touch with a world wide market. Customers no longer have to rely on salesmen, they can go right to the manufacturer's website and read all about it. They can go to any number of forums and read product reviews. This means that customers will be happy with their purchases and happy customers are repeat customers. Yes, I'm somewhat puzzled that BM doesn't have a forum here but I think I know the reason. By having their own forum on their website they can control the content. They can remove posts they find objectionable. Imagine what would happen if Cold Steel tried to start a forum here. That would just be ugly for them.

I do wish Benchmade had a forum here - would cut down the places I need to check out.
