maybe a stupid question about Buck knife

My friend has an all black Ti handled Buck knife. It is in perfect condition but no box. I was wondering if this knife is worth anything. I have been looking for them on the net but everyone seems to only have the new ones with the Ti crystal finish. Thanks for any help.

That is probably one of the original run of 560's. They were produced in two variations: all black, or a gray handle and a regular satin blade.

IMO the fact that the all black version is so seldom seen or asked
about may mean that it would be best to "collect" this knife until a
production number can be found at Buck. The worst that could
happen is the owner would have a fine knife for "later".

Wait for Joe Houser to show up in here, or email him. Someone else might know, but he will be able to find out for sure.

The black titanium Bucks weren't great sellers but they aren't exactly rare. Most folks that have them just hold onto them and use them which is why you don;t see them on the secondary market too much.

Buck quit making the knife when the plant that made the titanium handles burned down, (I think it was 1999). The crystal coated 560 came along in 2001.

There was a run on the gray and the black 560's after they were DC'd but before then, sales were tepid, unless they were heavily discounted.

I don't know how many were produced altogether. Joe could answer that one.

Looks like we sold about 19,000 of them. More than some models, fewer than others.
Hope this helps,

Is that number all the old Titanium 560, or just the all black ones?

And where is my Ti 112?;)

I really appreciate all the help guys. I would gather that it is not worth anything significant then?

Maybe a little more than what was paid for it, but nothing like twice its value. Of course what it is really worth is what someone is willing to pay for it.
