Maybe another RC tool?

From another thread:

For a good tactical tool that I think would be awesome to see is a throw-back to days way before the tomahawk...the war hammer. I think one would have some serious functionality, and be able to be used by multiple departments. I have some ruff designs I could show you if you would like to see what I'm talking about.

Here's an idea that I haven't seen ANYONE make a decent example of: the pick hammer. What I have in mind is an offshoot of the wahammer. It would have a slightly longer, but smaller diameter hammer head than the warhammer (more used as a tool, but will be a real headache if used "socially"), and would have a longer pick end than a warhammer. The weapon aspect of this is quite secondary.

If no one sees the application, think mountains. This is a survival tool for areas that don't have much in the way of vegetation, such as mountains and many areas of high desert. Trademarks here are hard, rocky ground that you really need a pick to break up and/or dislodge rocks, and the hammer makes for much easier pounding of stakes and such. I know the RAT guys do mostly jungle survival, but this might be a good idea for guys in mountain/high desert survival.

ETA: by the very design and use, this would be something of a departure, as it, by necessity, would have to be a fairly heavy tool, and works best with a longer handle. This isn't something that would work well if it was short like the hand axes that have become popular for whatever reason. Plus you want the long poll for prying once you get the pick set. Plus 1095 would not work well, it'd need to be a good, tough tool steel.

Too weapony.
Here's an Estwing pick hammer:

However, the item is too short and the head too small for what I have in mind.

The Estwing above is 16.5" long, I had more like 20" in mind.
The Estwing is made for rock hounders, i.e. not to destroy the rock it hits, but be able to tap it out and such and is only 22 ounces.

What I'm after is a heftier tool.
Thinking more of a two to two and a half pound head, with a spike end about 30-50% longer than the Estwing, and have it be a spike, not a chisel end. The idea is to quickly penetrate hard soil, or to penetrate the cracks between rocks and have the length of handle to pry them loose quickly.

The application being to pierce stake holes in hard soil, or to move stones to make a hollow for shelter, and/or use the loosed stones to build a windbreak. Like I said, more of a mountain/desert survival tool where there is little vegetation, and you'd have little use for an axe.

The V&B Manufacturing "Handy Pick" is 26" long with about a two pound head.

Not a hammer face, but it would probably do what you are asking this type of tool to do. The handle could be trimmed.

Too ligtht and the pick end is too short.

I really don't expect this to be a popular idea with the RAT guys, but I'm hoping someone will make one, so i don't have to go buy an anvil and piss away another load of cash on yet another hobby.

Not all war hammers were thick chunky stubby things some of the most effective and devastating ones had smaller heads and long back spikes. The smaller head concentrated the blow to a smaller area increasing it damage and the back spike was long and thin to penetrate plate armor here a a few examples

Interesting, but not enough hammer (in fact, basically no hammer). Plus the "pick" isn't the right profile for the work I want to do. Remember, this is a tool, I don't mean for it to be "tactical" in any way. Not that you couldn't dismantle someone with it, but it's not its primary function.
