How can I justify buying the MK V ATAC for field use,
ATAC.jpeg

when I already carry a Navy MK III Mod 0 for field use.

Am I just being vain/stupid?

Or is there really a difference in capability?

I'm serious about this. Help?

Can you afford it? Do you really like it? If so then go ahead and get it. Most of us do not "need" all the knives we have. I don't know how good the MOD is for field use (never handled one). However, I think the field use might just be an excuse to get something you really want. Only you can say if you can swing it. From a strictly utilitarian view it is probably not worth it. However, from an asthetic point of view it might bring you a lot of satisfaction.

Bad things about the Navy blade: Is that saw section useful? I doubt it. The tip looks like it could break off too. And the shallow grind line doesn't lend itself to the best cutting performance.

Good things in favor of the MOD: Double edged right? Sharpen the top edge to an obtuse edge and use it for chopping, as a band breaker, etc. Make the main cutting edge a nice fine edge for the more delicate tasks. The recurved edge ought to make slicing cuts like CRAZY, way better than the Navy. Also, the serrations must be great around rope in the field.

THERE! Either blade would probably make a good outdoor blade. I think the MOD is more versatile from its looks. If you like the blade as well, then go for it!
