I ended up with 4 of the FF FBMs two in the sage and G10 config. When I got them I knew right away they were not going to work to well for me. I mean just look at the tip in the first few pictures.

Man I would not even have a Axe that thick. Maybe a concrete jack hammer bit...but man that is not a knife.

Still I really like the design and handle and of course INFI rules. Anyway I sent one off to a well known knife maker for a Full height Convex re-grind. Then I stripped this one and worked it by hand. First the before pics. Note the insanely think edge and tip. Look how course and toothy the edge is. Not good for a chopper at all.

Ok here is the same knife after HOURs of hand work with sand paper. There was a LOT of metal to remove and it is still a SUPER beefy tip and edge.

I still have a few factory edge ones left. I will do some head to head cutting tests when the Full height convex gets back from the Knife makers shop.

Anyway not knocking Busse or Busse knives I have tons of them and I love them. But Man these FFFBMs are showing up like half finished grind wise... Opinion!! Not fact.

Pics hosted on one heck of a fun knife forum...

wow, REALLY obtuse edge! i like the work you did, and cant wait to see the one you sent away.

That looks great!

Got any pics of the whole knife now? I'd love to see how it looks after all that work. BTW, I should have a blade you re-edged here on Monday -- looking forward to checking it out...

Which one did you get? The FSH?

I noticed it too on my black ffbm, the edge was pretty thick. but the green penetrator I received seems to have a bit thinner edge?

OMG, thanks for the spine shot at the tip JAB, thats SO FAT!!!!!! And yes, for serious chopping, that edge would soon be weak... that polished edge now looks like a true zombie chewer...

I wonder what the factory edge will be like on the SHSHA knives?? On a full height flat grind, hopefully razor from the word GO GO GO !

wow that edge looks great. I am sure that alot of elbow grease was involved ;) But I am also sure that it is very worthwhile. Like you I prefer thin and efficient edges. Actually I prefer the thinnest edge I can get away with. Since INFI is so tough I always take me edges really thin whenever I mod my busses. I profiled my BM-E's primary bevel down to .040 right behind the secondary bevel. It is definately alot thinner that the factory edge though I don't recall how thick the primary bevels are on the larger blades. I wanted to take it down more but I think I will try it out first and then remove more metal later if necessary.

My personal opinion is that a knife is first and foremost a cutting instrument and it should excel at that. I don't intend to chop nails and cinder blocks and nor do I intend to pry with them so I don't need thick edges. Besides crow bars are much cheaper instruments if I want to pry.

I agree...I just don't get the obsession with "fat" blades...it just makes it more difficult to use as a cutting tool...

Another Vampire slayer!!!
Your arms must be ready to fall OFF?
Very interested to see how they perform against stock...
