Maybe my ideal Case knife is a Schrade

I mentioned over in the Dream Case Knife thread that I would like to have a peanut with a sheepsfoot secondary. Then it occurred to me that my Schrade-made Craftsman small stockman is very close to that very size and blade configuration.

So maybe I already have it. If only I had it in the dogleg jack frame of the peanut.

Hi Doug, how can you go wrong with such a sturdily built knife such as the Schrade built Craftsman?... absolutely fantastic knives, thanks for showing us

Very good, Doug.

Your post & pics reminded me to pick up my 108OT Old Timer for another look, which seems to be on the same frame as your Schrade Craftsman. Nice little knife, and 1095 steel to boot. I've been EDC'ing my larger 8OT every day, so maybe it's 'Little Brother' should get some pocket time, too. :)

Although the peanut is still my favorite small knife the Schrade small stockman is the only small knife that can compete with the nut, still want someone to make a 3" nut with master spear, wharncliffe secondary.

let me ask you a question please. did'nt Schrade knifes go over to china to being made there instead of the USA?? case is still being made in the good old USA.

The current Schrades are made for Taylor in China, mine is a Schrade open stock introduced in 1955 and end production in 1988. Doug's Craftsman is also a Schrade

...and my 108OT is also a USA Schrade, most likely '70s/'80s era (tang is marked 'N.Y. U.S.A.'). Still plenty of them to be found on the secondary market, if one is willing to look for 'em.

Indeed, your picture nearly urged me over the edge to pick up one this evening, but then I remembered my Craftsman and decided I don't really need two very similar knives. I still think yours is beautiful.

Sort of an odd thing about that knife, for me. I got that one so long ago, I don't even remember where or under what circumstances. It stayed tucked away in a desk drawer until just a couple or three years ago. Had some minor spotting on the blades, and the bolsters had been scuffed up from 'rattling around' amongst all the other clutter in the drawer for so long. The picture I posted was the 'after' shot, after I'd re-discovered it and cleaned it up with a Dremel & cotton wheel, and some polishing compound. I'm glad I actually held onto that one, even if unknowingly, for so long. :)

Oh man you are so lucky on that front! Its so cool to rediscover something you lost a long time ago, and really good job on restoring the bolsters and buffing the blades, it really literally looks mint. I miss that knife, its awesome to see it looking so good in that picture:thumbup::thumbup:

And OP, that knife is spot on! Someone mentioned the shield and i agree it is perfect. I agree with you about the sheepsfoot blade, however for me id prefer a pen blade and a sheepsfoot :D

Keep your eyes open, that pattern was popular. You can find them marked Schrade Walden, Craftsman, Ulster, and Imperial. All the same pattern.

To get the clip and sheepsfoot combo, there was an 893, but it is a longer 3 9/16" length.

It will always be one of my favorites Vanguard, thanks. And I finally sent the Camillus jack I got from you along with it to get the black plastic handles replaced with jigged hunter green bone.

Hi Doug---Can you PM me and tell me who you are getting to replace the handles on your knife. Thanks.
Harold
