They're not lying. The tip hasn't been broken off, its perfectly in tact with the other half of the blade where ever it is

Lets see, Schrade LB7. Schrades answer to the buck 110- 5" closed supposed to be 3 3/4" blade, or in this case 5" closed 2 1/2" blade but its hardly got any wear on it
