I'm thinking about my first Buck. I want Mayo TNT 172 but can't find on the Buck's Web-site - only carbon-fiber version (172CFSLE), is it discontinued? Was it limited production and how many were made? Anybody knows productions years (since 2007 to 2009?)?

The 172 first appeared in the catalogs in 2003 and was followed by the 171 in 2007. They are gone from the 2010 catalog, so it's a safe bet to say they have been discontinued.

They can still be found at online dealers. I checked out my three favorites and found the 172 for about $214 to $219 + shipping. Also found several on Ebay from $185 to $205 + shipping.

It's a great knife at a good price in my mind. Quality material and workmanship.

I like it a lot but it was a bit small for my big hand so I passed on it.

Watch for a lightly used one, should still be many out there at a good price.

Is it good enough to be 1st Buck, or little bit overpriced?

That would depend on your financial situation I suppose. To me, it's a bit spendy. If you're not just hung up on having the titanium, there's the Vantage Pro. It is very similar and also has the S30V blade. Here it is with the Paradigm and a CF TNT. The Vantage is selling for about $60 + shipping right now

I don't know whether it's discontinued or not but as a precaution I just ordered another one from Home Depot. I've been buying pocket knives since 1969 and the Mayo /TNT is my favorite all-time production knife. (love my Sebenza too, but I carry the TNT more often) If you want a lightweight, ergonomic knife made of top quality materials, the TNT will fill the bill. (and at under 200 bucks, I think it's a steal)

Sorry for my English, but I don't know what is "spendy". Something sort of "bargain"?
Average wage in my city is about 380$ per month. On average the country wages lower, so every knife more expensive than 30-40$ is unnecessarily expensive. For me 250$ for knife is OK, i just want to know about quality-price ratio. My Sebenza is a quality knife, but i don't like how it cuts because of thick edge. And Sebenza is too heavy for spring/summer pants. My Spyderco's CF&ZDP-189 Stretch cuts more better, but i want titanium:) So my question was "Is TNT's cut ability and overall good enough for 200+$"? If i understand correctly, i should buy it and enjoy:)

Spendy=expensive, and your English is fine!
I don't own any of the others that you mention so I can't comment on them.

If you just have to have titanium, then the TNT is the way to go for you. You would get the same "cut ability", in my opinion, with the Vantage Pro at a third the cost and that's why I mentioned it. It has basicly the same blade and blade material.

I have a 172 TNT and it compares fairly closely to a small sebenza.

I haven't used either as I have PLENTY of user knives that satisfy my needs.

The blade stock on the sebenza is .120" and the TNT closer to .125". The TNT is a little larger in size and weighs about 4 grams less than the sebenza. The sebenza framelock is a bit beefier than the TNT and has a stud for opening as opposed to the cutout in the blade of the TNT.

It comes down to a matter of personal preference. Typically, you can expect to pay around $50 - $75 more for the small sebenza.

Either knife is an excellent choice.

Regards,
Peter

Thank You for explanation!
Vantage Pro i saw at the exhibition - nice knife that and my wife appreciates highly. I had an intention to buy it, but now i have some extra$$$ and decided to get s30v+Ti knife instead of Sebeza.

Then that's the one you should buy. A person should never settle for less than they want, they usually regret it later. :D
