Mayo TNT - ouch!

Today's the first time I've accidentally cut myself while handling one of my knives. I just received a Mayo TNT and I can assure you it is extrememly sharp out of the box. Holy cow, what a knife. Lightweight, but not so light you can't "feel" it in your hand. Simple and elegant frame lock with an ultra smooth open / close action. Me happy. :)

Yep, it's quite a knife. The slice on my thumb was me not respecting the blade. A momentary and stupid mistake.

Yeah, it is an awesome, awesome knife!! I LOVE mine. In fact, it is in my pocket as we speak. I love how low it sits in my pocket.

:p frankly.........................I get cut just about every single day!

its just part of the job!

Sharp edge - Sharp look - Great "feel" - Super knife !

One of Buck's best ever....IMHO

"I feel your pain" :( (who said that?) Hope you heal fast. I picked up a TNT at a local dealer a couple of weeks ago and I'm VERY impressed with the overall fit and finish, design, materials, etc. It's a beauty and a snap to carry in just about every carry position. Good luck with it. :)

I really have an issue with the Mayo TNT. I used to think it was the best knife in the world, carried one ever day for the past year. Sharp as can be, light, strong, ect... One of my top 3 favorites.
Well that all changed last week. I was cutting some weed wacker line with my Mayo and slipped. I had laid the line across the plastic housing of the weed wacker and was pushing down on the knife in an attempt to sever the line. (guess where this is going) The whole thing moved and the blade slipped off the housing and the middle finger on my left hand caught the full force before I was able to pull my hand out of the way.
A trip to urgent care, and only 7 stiches later, I was back home contemplating my stupidity, trying to find a scapegoat for the laceration that they had so neatly sewn back together.
Then it hit me, if this knife was worth its salt, it would have severed the end of my finger cleanly! Am I right? As it was, it only made it about a third of the way through my finger nail!
Needless to say I have already had a discussion with Jeff Hubbard in Quality about this. He assured me that it was probably just my cat like reflexes that saved my finger and the knife is fine. I just knew he would say something like that!
 :o

LOL

This has been my EDC knife for 6 months now. At this point the only way to get it from me is to pry it from my cold dead hands. It rocks!

Funny and well written Joe. But still painful no doubt. Hope you heal well.

I haven't been cut with mine yet. Mainly because it lives in its neat little box all wraped up in poly, and only comes out for show. Just cant bring myself to use it, the abuse one gets in my pockets.

I know,,,what a waste. :(

Since when is a weed whacker a suitable cutting board? ;)

I hope that it heals fast and well!

P.S. MikeZ, how are you healing?

I'm doing great. The cut healed up nicely - a thin scar is all that's left to remind me to be more careful when handling one of Buck's (and Tom's) masterful knives. :D

Thanks for checking in on me George.

I'd say I'm more concerned about Joe's recent injury than anything that happened to me. 7 Stiches? Nice work Joe. Maybe Mr. Mayo can make you a training version of the TNT that you can carry around for a while?

;)

Don't candy coat it for me Tom. I can take it! :D

I am loath to share this but i kind of evened things out this morning. While cleaning a 110 that I had just sharpened, I sliced the end of my other middle finger. No stiches this time but this one hurt because my right hand middle finger is my trigger finger on my bow release.

They should make a smilie for this sort of thing.

Joe,
This sounds like a case for a workman's compensation claim and about three weeks off for hunting!!!! I am sure everybody would understand!!

I'm gonna email CJ and see that he gets you an assistant to take all the risks for you, you are way too important to the company to be having this sort of thing happening all the time!!!!!

and btw-just to make you feel better, I smashed the ---- out of my thumb yesterday, couldnt sleep well because it was so swollen and throbbing!! :(

Note to self...

Buy more 172's and 110's. Sounds like a shortage is possible.

For some reason, I have a Band-Aid on today from an Onion accident over the weekend.. Been field testing our new Kitchen Cutlery :D

Jeff

Jeff,
Is the new kitchen cutlery Idaho made? Also, is the expected introduction in 2006?
Are you willing to give us a description of the handle material(s), steel, other items of interest?
Thanks,
Larry
