I'm thinking about getting one of his knives, but on the particular model I like, it looks like there is no thumb cutout to push the lock back.

Does anyone have a model like that? How do you release the lock?

Thanks

You could just ask Tom. He posts here and on knifeforums all the time. His e-mail is: mayot001@hawaii.rr.com
His website is: http://www.mayoknives.com/
He also is typically present at the Tom and Jerry Show at:

Though I've not met him personally, in correspondence he seems like a great guy. Jerry Hossom likes him and that's good enough for me... ;)
Wish I owned one of his knives but I don't. I've handled one and it was sweet but I don't recall whether or not it had a cut-out. I'm sure other folks who own them will chime in soon.

Good Luck!

I think that you are talking about the ambi option. You can open with either hand. The lock side is slightly lower than the nonlock side. I have one, works great. Tom does the locks well and it doesn't take a lot of pressure to open the lock.
