OK, here we go... frankly speaking I've bought this one ONLY to play with my tools on it and then sell. But now it'll be one of my low-profile EDC's. You know, it's too sweet to let it go easily. So what I did:

a) top guard removed
b) bottom guard rounded. Not too much, just to create kind of "smooth extension" of the arc of primary part of handle.
c) edges of the clip rounded. Anyone with brand new Buck Mayo knows that putting your baby back to jeans pocket is not always that smooth & easy. Now it is.
d) sand blasting with coarse sand for a good grip and "anthracite" look. After blasting I've sanded it down with 1500 grit 3M pad to make it a bit smoother but still "grippy". Let's say that there are still nice "dimples" after sanding, but the texture is not sharp. That saves your pocket also.
e) after sanding the clip's been polished on the "pocket" side... just to your pocket, but of course it gives also smooooth out-of-pocket deployment.
f) Ti-slabs polished on pivot area... now it's sooooth. Especially with Chris Reeve fluorinated grease.

Some pic's? Here you are... and what do you think?

really, that is beautiful. Nice work, and outstanding pictures.

The flow is definetely better (sorry Tom) and that top guard didn't have much of a reason to be there in the first place.

Very nice. I agree the top guard is unneeded. The clip would do better to ride a little lower IMO. Still my fav.

Very nice work. I does look like drawing the knife from the pocket without the top guard would prove a little more difficult but maybe the texture and the smoothing of the inside of the clip makes up for it.

As far as opening smoothly, I just don't know how mine could be improved. It was incredibly smooth right out of the box.

A very nice knife and one of my personal favorites.

Kudos to your photography skills. You must be a pro !!

Great work! I sold mine because the top guard was uncomfortable. Now if could just make the lock access cutout a bit larger it would be perfect! :p

Once again I am amazed by Piter's work, both on the knife and with the camera.
:)
Oh, to have talent.

Thanks for the confirmation! I was going to do very similar mods on the guard area, as well as blast it. Nice touch to sand it as well. Only things further I was going to do was soften the edges of the holes to make them "flow" into the handle, and add little ridges at the top and bottom of the pivot side to help with drawing it out.
Great work, looks superb, and great shots too!

Looking at your pics forces me to look seriously into buying one. You have a beautiful knife. The price for a Buck is higher than norm, you are right! I also like what I hear about the workmanship. Never owned a frame lock, would like too.

I do have a Buck Strider.

Very nice job! Did you consider beveling the handles a little for a more comfortable contour and a more "melted" look?
