My imagination got the better of me this afternoon. So in the spirit of competition and good-natured fun we bring you
MAYO vs. ONION
That rumbling you feel emanating from the islands of Hawaii is not an earthquake or a volcanic eruption. It is a clash between two giant names in the custom knife world. Surely, this battle will eclipse the all that came before and all that will follow. Forget tooth and nail. Forget hammer and tongs. There are no phrases that can adequately describe the ferocity of what we are about to see.
The competitors have made their way to the arena and now its time for the introductions.
In the blue corner, weighing in at something close to 5 ounces and fighting out of Waialua, Tom Mayo!
And in the red corner, weighing in at approximately 6 ounces and fighting out of Kaneohe, Ken Onion!
The bell rings and we are underway.
Oh! A quick attack by Mayo catches Onion before he can get his guard up. What will Mayo do from this position? Hes got a lot of options. Mayo has been known to utilize a forward thrust for maximum penetration but Onion is aware of this and could have a dangerous counter move waiting.
My goodness, Mayo has skipped the forward thrust and gone for the around-the-world slice. Onion is in a bad way here. I dont think he could have anticipated the speed with which Mayo executed that move. Mayo will look to keep up the pressure and maximize his advantage.
Folks I cant believe what Im witnessing here on the cutting board. Mayo has skinned Onion and quartered him twice over in only a few seconds! Its truly a dire situation now for Onion. The quickness, power and precision of Mayo are overwhelming him. Im not sure what Onion can do to escape, he might want to start praying for divine intervention.
Mayo is just relentless with the pressure now, taking Onion apart with precision shots. Its getting very ugly and the referee has to be close to calling the fight.
Another flurry from Mayo! Onion is out, hes down and out! Its all over! Big John McCarthy jumps in to wave it off and the fight is over.
As if what we just saw wasnt enough to show Mayos supremacy, hes adding insult to injury by arranging the broken body of his downed opponent on the mat. Mayo is making sure everyone can see that Onion has been KOd.
After the fight, Mayo gave an interview while standing on the tattered remains of Onions entrance robe.
Kens a great fighter but I knew I could surprise him early. Once the first shot got through I was able to do everything I wanted, he didnt have any answers for it. Its a big win for me and its going to send a message to everyone else in the division dont bring a vegetable to a knife fight because Ill put you to sleep! Yeah!
Ladies and gentlemen, that was a slaughter the likes of which Ive never seen in all my years covering this sport. To say Ken Onion ran into a buzzsaw tonight would be a massive understatement. Tom Mayo was absolutely dominant and left no doubt that hes at the top of his game. Well have to wait and see if there could be a rematch somewhere down the road. Itll be a while before Onion can come back from this.
That wraps up our coverage for the night. Until next time, so long fight fans.....and kumbaya.
