I have been a fan of Tom Mayo’s designs for quite a while. I was fortunate enough to get in on the Shirogorov/Mayo collaboration for the Carbon Fiber Russian Dr. Death. I was thinking about adding a Dr. Death to my collection, but the wharny has really caught my eye. Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of experience with pricing Mayo’s. I know the secondary market is all over the place, but I have some questions:
1.) Is there a premium on XHP or CPM 154?
2.) Is there a large markup for IKBS?
3.) Is there a markup for blades marked XXXV (35th anniversary)?
4.) How rare are the wharnys?

If I can find one, it will definitely be carried, so the questions are not to try to turn a profit in a few years.

Why don't you contact him and ask, I'm sure he'd let you know.....

He was ill and cancelled the Gathering Show in Las Vegas that's this weekend, he had a few knives finished and may have just what you're looking for.

Thank you for the info. I was basing my question on the secondary market since there is no contact information on the website, and last I heard no new orders were being accepted. There are a few listed at various re-sellers, but the pricing varies greatly.

In my experiences I have found that his direct prices can be about 20-100% lower than what folks try to get for his work on the secondary market.
