i want every knifemaker on the forums to order mc master carr. it has over 2000 pages of stuff that every knifemaker wants. you can find parts for building equipment, they even stock contact wheels 2' wide, and up to 16" dia. there ph. is (732) 329-3200
trust me, it's one heck of a catalog. they even sell tool steels, and some 440c.

the catalog is free...but not super easy to get...you have to be a registered business to get one sent to you i think (?)...but they will sell to anyone...they have LOTS of great stuff...like he said...its where i buy my teflon sheet (any thickness you want) to make my folder washers...

I had no problem getting it. Just when to there sit fill out form and got it. And I have no registered business. They did say they could refuse to send me the catalog. I didn't think I would get it but I did.

They must have made a mistake when I got mine. There was all kinds of stuff of site that said they didn't have to give you a catalog if they didn't see fit to, said they might give a smaller one or none at all, it was in there judgement.
But heck I got one, so I wouldn't ask just because everybody says they are hard to get.
They mught make a mistake agian.

this is my dad's i didn't think it would be that hard to get. Do they screen you to? i know you don't need to be a business owner to order stuff. it does have plenty of great stuff. Grainger is great too, but you need to be a business owner.

When you buy something, do they include a catalog with your order like Jantz and some of the others do?

If anyone could get a copy of the latest McMaster-Carr catalog for me, I'd be willing to pay for one.

Hey guys, got an e mail from McMaster Carr today. They more or less said the cataolgs were for long established accounts and that I was welcome to use the online catalog. I have to admit, they were very courteous about it.

yeah, they are nice people, very helpful too. when i bought the speed reducer for my bandsaw, they aloud my to return it 3weeks later with no restocking fee. no questions asked.

McMaster is a great catalog, you could damn near build a rocket in your basement with all the stuff in there, but these catalogs are, indeed, rare to get ahold of sometimes. We're kinda lucky, though. Even though our company spends alot of money with them every year, we still have to try harder than we should to get a catalog. I can understand, though. The cost of producing, printing, and shipping a 3000+ page catalog to every person who asks would be prohibitive. I don't understand, however, why they don't put a price on them, and sell them, or offer them free with a purchase over "X" amount of dollars.

Kelly, I have both catalog #103, as well as the latest #105. #103 is from mid-`98, and there is only very slight changes, if any, in pricing, which actually changes sometimes even from the "current" catalog, depending on McMaster's vendors. I can't offer #105, but would be glad to send you #103 if this would help. E-mail me and let me know if you're interested. Just remember to say nice things about me.

The last McMaster-Carr version I've seen around the office was #104 and it was issued with a CD containing the whole catalog. It's far cheaper to burn a CD than print the book, plus it's far more convenient. So it might be easier to get a CD instead of the book. If I had a CD burner I'd help you guys out. But, I still go to the web site to get updated pricing and added items. It functions just like the CD, but slower.

Take care,
Tom

I didn't have any problem getting one of their catalogs, I did it over the phone last year and they opened an account for me too, which I have never used, I prefer to pay as I go. They should send hernia trusses with their catalog, it's the largest one I've ever seen.

Thought I'd offer a hand with this if anyone's still interested.

The company I work with (it's a biggie) manufactures industrial equipment. The specialized group I work in, designs and builds custom automated work cells. We build them from the ground up, and the "bible" for our M-F work week is the McMaster-Carr catalog. They have it all and will it get to you now. Everyone's cubicle has a few editions of these catalogs, and we've ordered replacements before with no hassles at all. So if you need one, e-mail me, and I'll see what I can do.
