Starting another hobby, first watches, now knives. Expensive! Anyway, going to collect 110's only. Just came into possesion of a custom Buck 110, Sambar stag scales, Damascus blade, brass bolsters, filed lock. Made March 1989 by B.C. McKinney. He worked for Buck as a custom knife maker (15 yrs), then opened his own campany after retirement. (Catawba Handcrafted Knives). Anyway, this knife has been locked in a safe for the past 16 years. Came with a letter of authenicity and a hand written note to the original owner from McKinney. Have the original check from the buyer to McKinney, McKinney's business card, original box and carry pouch. Absolutly flawless knife, I mean flawless. Never used. Was locked in a safe all these years, occasionly polished. Paid $200 on ebay. With all the history of McKinney and all, any thoughts on what this knife would be worth. I went to Bucks site and ordered a couple custom 110's, but nothing like this. Also I heard Buck will have more Damascus sometime in February. Looking for a new supplier I guess. Thanks all in advance for you input.

Welcome to the forums!

No clue as to what it might be worth, but show us some pictures if you can. It sounds like a beautiful knife.

It's odd that I've never considered myself a collector, I'm more of a user, but there's something special about the 110.

I started my love affair with the 110 when I was six years old. I've got eight of them now and am planning on ordering a few customs in the next several months. Every time I get a new one I have memories of fishing with my grandfather. That first 110 he gave me has cleaned hundreds of fish.

They say something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. So going by that, you answered your own ?. It's worth $200. Then again, it may be worth more to someone else at some other time on fleabay. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to Bladeforums! 110's only? They are one of my favorite production knives, what first drew me to them was the Bowie type/style blade, then I came to love every aspect of there design, most importantly that rock solid lock mechanism.Have gone on to discover the auto conversions,my early conversions were, let's just say,not up to snuff. chickentrax linked me to a very good conversion site  and I've even picked up a 112 conversion, had to after KILL BILL,all the best and have a Happy New Year! :D I'm kinda' clueless also as to what it may be worth.

Thanks to all who have responded so far. Yes, I would say I'm hooked! Up till 2am the last couple of nights reading posts, seaching the net to see what's out there related to the 110's.

Got yelled at by the soon to be new wife, (getting married March 4th), and yesterday drove down to meet the owner of said knife. Thought it would take just a couple of hours round trip....well it took about 7 hours round trip. She was just a little upset!!! Need to save money for the wedding....blah, blah, blah.

I just ordered the below knife from Buck Custom. Ordered right before Xmas, said it should take upto six weeks, well got an email last night that knife has already shipped.

CKS110 110 Folding Hunter
Handle: Asian Waterbuffalo
Finger Grooves: Yes
Rivets: Yes
Blade: BG-42, Satin Finish
Serration: Yes
Bolster: Nickel

I don't think I'm going to tell her about the Brian Yellowhorse 110/112 transition knife I bought over at the E-place!!! I need to slow down!!!!!!!

Ok, I need to get off this computer! Just picked up a 110/112 transition for $121 over at E-place. Don't know why. Maybe I will just look at it and compare it to the BY I purchased as well. I'm scared! I think I might be hooked! At least it was a limited run. Trying to justify to myself.......

This is sad...I don't think this woman is the right one for you... :(

But here's what you do: Drive [or preferably ride] down to your favorite biker bar. Find the toughest, meanest, most arrogant shot-drinking, stein-slamming Redneck woman in the place, and make her yours. ;)

There will be no problem with buying knives after that. Or motorcycles, guns, pickup trucks, dogs, etc... :D ;)

Although I wouldn't go as far as Chickentrax, I would strongly urge you to train her now before it is too late. In other words, quickly go out and buy as many Buck knives as you can before March 4th. :D This should effectively de-sensitize her to the process and serve you well as you continue to buy more Buck knives during your married life. :D  :D

I recommend two residences, one for her and you and one for the knives and you. This may seem extreme but really it is the kindest thing for everyone concerned in the long run. I promise, you will both be happier this way.

Panmann,
Please speak to Leroy Remer about your new Byron "Mac" McKinney acquisition. There are a couple things you have been told that are not quite the truth and Leroy can give you first-hand knowledge. Not to worry, the knife is a Mac knife. However, Leroy and I looked at the eBay listing on that knife and Leroy is adamant that the seller had a few things wrong.
Welcome to the forums and to collecting Buck Knives. Please check out the Buck Collectors Club. Knowledge is very important in this hobby and one way to become knowledgable is through reading the club newsletters and getting to know some of the people from the club that post on this forum.
Oh, before I forget, here is Leroy's phone number: 619-561-2442

Thanks again to all who have responded. Larry, what did Leroy so strongly disagree with on what I was told? I found a rep down in San Deigo county who was selling some of McKinney's old stuff. His history on his site seemed to mirror what I was told. The letter I have was signed by McKinney on 3/26/89. The stamping on the blade indicates year 1989. That's the date on the check also. The pics on ebay did not do the knife justice at all. I will try and get some better pics posted. Thanks for all your help. And I will call Leroy sometime after the New Year! Thanks again.

<joking mode on>

Hmmmmm...Did you think I meant that Redneck Woman be used to make the Intended Bride jealous??? :) No, that was not the case! I meant *replace* her with Redneck Boilermaker Chugger! :D

In fact, I met one under just such circumstances not too long ago...she fascinated me...she had a cigarette in her left hand, a mixed drink in her right hand, and a cell phone in her other hand...

I tried to figure that out all night long...three hands...plus I know I saw her take a drink with her cigarette still in her mouth...how they do that???

I am going to have to go back there and investigate further... :p

I ordered the same Custom 110 w/out the finger grooves. Also have a stag & elk handled 110. I was very pleased when each one arrived. I'm sure you will be too. I didn't know about the BY transition knife. Sounds like a nice score on that one. Can you provide pics? Would love to see it.
