Guys - can I use this product (or something like it) in line with my Belt Sander?

Sorry to be the one to break the news to you but the short answer to your question is "no". The speed controls for routers are for fast start motors, yours has a start capacitor on it. It will invariably burn up.

What Craig said. If there were any cheap shortcuts, to variable speed capabilities, it would have been found by a maker long ago.
This question comes up with regularity.
