Anyone use this? Is it comparable to Parks 50? I need to make a McMaster Carr order anyway, so I was thinking of getting some. Thanks.

A little slower than p50 which is a 7 second oil. May not give full hardness on W2/1095 and other shallow hardening steels, especially thicker stock (guessing 1/8"+).

Great for O1/52100/5160 etc.

But I have not used it, so take that in to account too. Just going by spec and others input.

Thanks. I made a knife for a gentleman who is also in the industrial lubricant/ oil business. He is checking the specs of Parks 50 to see if they have a comparable product. I hope so...

it works great for 1095 and I use it for thin folder blades, 1/8" and under
also works good for W1. 5/32 and under

Thanks. I looked on their site and couldn't find it but I'll give them a call.

It's not on the website. You just have to call and ask for a bucket of P50 quench oil (they no longer actually label it "Parks.")

A 5 gallon bucket was about $125 shipped to WI from TX fwiw.

that's funny, the link was dead at work, now that I'm home it worked. I'm still going to see what my customer comes up with as he's within driving distance.

I actually had to refresh it on my phone to get it to connect. Their internet tubes must be leaky. If you call and ask for Parks 50 or P50 they'll know what you're talking about and quote you a price.

I've noticed trugrit has started stocking quench oil as well, might be worth checking prices. I've always know McMaster to be rather overpriced..

I have both P50 and McMaster's 11sec oil. The P50 is used at room temp and I heat the 11 sec oil before quenching. If I had to choose I would go with P50

I use both Parks 50 from Maxim and McMasters 11-second oil. Everyone uses P50 because there is no equivalent. There are several different 11-second oils, but P50 is the only fast oil I know of. I use the P50 for 1095 and W2. The 11-second I use for 80CRV2, 52100 and 5160. Both work great for their intended purpose.
