I want to make some big choppers out of 5160 by stock removal. I need some really wide stock and would prefer 5160H, but don't want to order 22" from Pacific Steel in Portland. Uncle Al doesn't have something wide enough.

I've also used scraps from a local spring shop, but had to have them annealed. It's also hard for me to get away during working hours. (I don't know why he had to temper them before cutting to size)

McMaster-Carr has 5150 in 6' lengths. I can get 1/4" x 3" for $30.80. Has anyone heard anything about their stock? I have a feeling it would likely have inclusions in it. Thanks.

I hold McMaster-Carr in the highest regard. Those that know me, know I do not say that lightly about just any vendor. Working for nearly 15 years ordering anything within the realm of industrial MRO, Mcmaster-Carr has never once disappointed me, and I have spent tens of thousands of my company's money there. Never once have they not shipped an order when they said they would. Never once have they shipped the wrong item. Never once have I been dissatisfied with anything I biught through them.

That said, I have ordered tons of metals and composites through them over the last couple decades and have never been dissapointed. You may pay a little more for this piece of mind, but to me its very well worth it.
