mcusta damascus question

given that the mcusta damascus is a coating, will that wear away? if I sharpen it, will that ruin its finish? how thin is it?

The way I understand it, it isn't really a 'coating', but layered damascus around a VG10 core. I've got one Mcusta and the blade is awesome... one of the sharpest knives I own. the damascus pattern doesn't extend all the way to the edge, so sharpening it doesn't affect it at all. It wont wear away unless you grind it down to the core.
