Just got one of these beauties for my B-day and wanted to share with you a few initial impressions and a couple pics.

First of all, I'm very very impressed. I've been looking at MCUSTA for some time now, got to handle a couple at a store nearby, and really liked them. But this one is even better than anything else they've produced so far. It's a piece of art, but for a very reasonable price. It's a perfect gentleman's liner locking folder, but with a few twists, like the blade of "VG-10 core forged with 33 layered nickel Damascus", "checker engraved back" similar to Benchmade's Osbornes, anodized pivot pin, and of course the "laser engraved Kamon crests". Comes with a traditional Japanese pouch, which was the only thing I did not like, since it's not very secure and feels loose. The knife has no clip, so you need to get a belt pouch for it - luckily I have a few from other knives that work very well.

The size is perfectly non-threatening. Fit and finish are superb, Handles are smooth, blade is razor sharp. Its open construction allows for easy cleaning. The lockup is solid. All in all

So what are you waiting for? Go pick one up here for example. They have great service, nice selection, and amazingly fast shipping. This is a perfect knife to give as a present :)

And now for some pics:

They have a nice display at Blade and you can pick up and examine most of their models. All of them are nice but some like that one just grab you. The problem I found was the women at the booth distracted from the knives for some reason.

Here are some more pics. I realized that this knife fits my watch perfectly, so I had to take some photos of them together :) Also, I took a shot of the spine to show the checkering and the open construction.

that's very nice. where is the best / cheapest place to get them reliably?

great review and pics, thanx Tim.....I have to say yours and the Yoroi (sp?) are the ones i've looked at the hardest but haven't pulled the trigger yet...:)

I have been watching as well for a price drop on one of these. A pocket clip would be nice but on one of these it would spoin the looks.

i just purchased that same knife today at a knife shop in nyc i love the knife i am just wondering how to store it, it is my first damascas blade so i was wondering how to keep it i put a lil wd40 on it and put it in my display box is that alright?

I did not put anything on it - simply keep it in one of my rolls. But I am in CA, which is pretty dry ... I don't think you need to worry about it much if you are not using it :)

i was just wondering because i was reading up on the mcustas on the forums here and i heard about the writing on the blade to come off with polish so i wasnt sure if the wd40 would take it off

I wouldnt use wd40, because its stinky and has unnecessary solvents in it. Its stainless but if youd like to, a light coat of mineral oil is plenty.
