Hey guys I have a question about the blade on my Katana. I don't know if this looks normal or not. All the pics I've seen makes my blade look rough. I hate for this to my first post but I'm concerned since the knife was a large purchase for me.

Discoloration in circled areas

And looks like tooling marks here

The discolorations might be an issue, but tooling marks on a sub $300 knife is normal. I would also say that if you aren't happy with the knife, return it to the dealer you got it from and snap up something else.

I wouldn't be worried about the performance of the knife. Unless they pooched the heat treat, or you plan on doing heavy work duties. You clearly bought it for beauty & bragging, & for 300 it's slightly lacking. My actual $300 katana looked better than that. So send it back like you know you want to. Or gamble on doing your own restoration on it. Hopefully you don't have to gamble on shipping as well, if you send it back.

It's not a $300 knife...more like $125-ish.

They etch the blade to show the steel distinction of the San mai... In doing so minor color blotching can occur. I've never owned that particular model, bit don't think I've seen tooling marks on a mcusta before, usually even the flats are ground. Overall I wouldn't worry about any of the minor cosmetics that you reference

Cool knife, I don't own one but I like the idea behind it. think you might be expecting a bit too much and being a little too critical for what it is.

I also have one and everything is perfect... except the blade. I don't see any discoloring, but there are clearly vertical tool marks visible on the blade, personally i do't think this is normal, i don't see it on any of my other blades.

If this is a "User" i wouldn't worry about it. But if it's a collection piece
I'd get it replaced, mostly on the blade discoloration issue.
