Mcusta Knives, yay or nay?

I have been looking at Mcusta folders, more specifically the damascus ones. It seems to me that they are far too low priced for what they are. Damascus, partly handmade, etc. Are they good? Is their damascus good? It doesn't look as interesting as some damascus, and it costs so much less. Also, if anybody has experience with the Mcusta basic series, gentleman's series, Mari, or Tsuchi, I would appreciate input on ergonomics and etc. Also, has anybody dealt with damascusknifestore.com?

Thanks for the help!

i have handled the Take version and a basic. both of them were very nice knives. i really liked the take because of how the bamboo nestled into your hand. the only thing that kept me from purchasing was that i am a lefty. they both close very easily with the left hand but i dont think i would use one as much as if it were lefty

I just bought a Gentleman's folder in stamina wood. Nice weight (not too heavy), fit and finish seems very fine to me, smooth opening and closing, tight lockup and only a teeny tiny hint of side to side play (perhaps the pivot screw shold be tightented a bit more?) Blade is extremely sharp and of course has the damascus look. Very cool handle - I like it! Nice blade to handle proportion so it looks good open as well.

I have not had a chance to cut with it yet but it just does not feel as comfortable in hand as others. I think it is because of the placement of the clip, on the pivot side.

I have this one: Basic quince damascus. Nice knife. Overall fit&finish are good for this price class. Haven't used it, so I can't comment on that.

Here's a pic:

I have a Basic model with Quince wood. It is a very smooth opening knife. I really like the VG10 blade. I don't think you will find a better liner lock knife for the money.

I like 'em!

Need to add one to my EDC rotation.

Anybody got any "in-hand" pics?

I've played with several and am extremely impressed with the fit and finish of every one of them. As far as overall quality is concerned, I don't think Mcusta can be beat for the money. You will be happy with one. But, just a heads up, some Mcustas don't come with a pocket clip, which is a necessity for me, so make sure the one you like has one (if it matters to you).

Very satisfied with the 2 I own, both basics, 1 ebony with Damascus, the other white handled. Excellent openers and tight lock. The steel remains sharp and the ergonomics and fit are outstanding. It's nice to have an unusual knife that is so well-made and I endorse buying from the website a previous poster recommended. Ultra fast delivery from Japan to the EU. Only downside is a rather questionable sheath, the cordura is OK but the leather 'jeans effect' stitch on label looks cheap&tawdry, a small problem though. get one, you will not be disappointed:thumbup:

they are great little knives with good steel and good F&F

They arent damascus like william henry damascus or boker damascus with hundreds of layers they are more like 30 layers so thats a big difference in price

i dont know one yet but one of the damascus katana series is on my list

Yay, yay, and yay.

... the sheaths are weak though.

I'm interested in a Take and Yoroi....great pics, by the way!

Indeed, after dealing with jkd / jck you'll never wish to order from another site. So take a hint and don't keep asking, Alteran ;-)

I have a Tsuchi and I love it, it is a little small, but it is a gentlemen's folder and not a tactical beefy one. I would best describe it as excellent fit and finish, SCARY sharp (split hairs, etc.....), strong lock-up, and about the size of a three finger fixed blade. The pouch is decent, great for pocket carry, but I would never hang it on my belt. Relatively great oxidation resistance, and the tsuchi has decent grip for what little texturing it has. If I were to buy another I would get one of the wooden scaled series as they seem to be a lot thicker. Between this and my large sebbie I will never need another folder.
