I am getting ready to finalize an order of knives and I have decided on a ZT 0301 and Small Sebenza. I am trying to decide on something that is a good in between size to add to the sebbie and the ZT. I like the looks of the Tactility and the EX01 and wondered what people thought about the two options.

If I go with the EX01, I would go with the larger version with the green gmascus handles. If I went with the Tactitlity, I would need to choose between the Quince wood and the Korian handles (Damascus style blade with thumb stud).

Lastly, just for feedback from other people, what do you think of the Extrema Ratio MFO (small folder) compared to the Small Sebenza? I think I am sold on the Sebenza; however, I think the MFO is pretty cool looking?

The Mcusta and the Hogue are really two different classes of knife. The Mcusta is a more refined daily carry blade while the Hogue is more of a 'working' knife. Your best choice really depends on their intended usage. It seems to me the Hogue and the ZT would fill very similar roles.

What he said.

I like both. Have 3 Mcustas and a large EX-01, tanto, black g-mascus.

Mcusta's are more "gentlemans knives".

The Hogue is so robust it makes you feel like you could cut down a tree with the darn thing.

Thanks for the feedback. I can see the point-if I am getting the ZT, then the Mcusta presents a different style knife. I am really drawn to the tactility but can't decide on the handles (black micarta, korian, or quince wood).

Of those 3, I would go for the quince wood...based purely on appearance, it has a nice "look" to it.

For me the choice would between the quince wood and the cocobolo...I have a preference for cocobolo based on looks and durablity, and Mcusta seems to pick and use a very good grade of cocobolo.
Don't have any experience with quince wood.

But I'm sure the micarta and korian are both nice....really gets down to a matter of personal taste.

I LOVE the look of the quince wood; however, I don't know about durability-I am afraid it'll be too pretty to use. That is why I was leaning towards korian and micarta. The micarta is nice but I feel like the damascus blade is really complamented by a different handle. I was going to order the korian and my Wife and a couple of friends weighed in and universally picked the quince wood over the korian-apparently, I am the only who likes the korian above the quince:). I feel like the korian and micarta have a bit more utility to them; however, I think the quince is the prettiest.

Seems like even a better reason to choose the cocobolo...since no one picked it.:D

The micarta is nice but I feel like the damascus blade is really complimented by a different handle.

Totally agree.

I would guess any of the handle materials will hold up fine for the uses you are likely to put it to...it is a "gentlemans folder" after all, you're not likely to be useing it for anything heavy duty...not that its delicate and couldn't take it.

There's a lot to be said for picking what you like, but also there is a definite plus any time you can make you wife feel you are agreeing with her. ;)

In my opinion, the size and style of the Tactility makes it not really a gentlemen folder, but it is true that it's designed for pure cutting (and will do that reliably for many years), not for breaking down old furniture. It is definitely a very nice knife.

If I were the OP, I would go for:

- Small Sebenza - you'll buy one eventually, so why delay? Perhaps check the Insingo variant to have a different blade style
- The Tactility, any version.
- The ZT0301 or the Hogue. Personally I would go for the Hogue, it being less of a heavy handful, and it's still more than sturdy enough.
- perhaps add a fixed blade to your order :-)

I seem to agree that based solely on the dimensions, the tactility is pushing the limits of gentleman's fodder to more of a beautiful cutting machine :)

I am really leaning toward the quince since it absolutely is aesthetically pleasing and complements the Damascus blade. My only concern with the quince is that if the knife needs to be cleaned, the korian would be easier to clean than the quince. I just know that if I get the korian and don't like it-it would be harder to sell or trade.

In terms of thinking about switching out the EX01 for the ZT-that is an interesting thought. I have always wanted a ZT but the one time I looked at one, it did feel a bit big in the hand (I don't have large hands). I just like the look of the knife and it has a tremendous track record (with great Kershaw customer service). Honestly, a part of me wonders if I wouldn't be selling the ZT soon after receiving it if doesn't fit my hand well.

I knew people liked the EX01, but I didn't realize it was in the same category of the ZT when it came to the hard use category. I imagine Hogue's customer service is still a bit untested as well (any word from users)?

I have several fixed blades that are on my radar for my next order. Currently I have an EESE and a BK2 that I use for a variety of tasks. I am thinking an Entrek, Blackjack, or Fallkniven for my next order (after I finally make some folder choices).

the corian is is quite attractive and not something you'll see in very many pockets

the ex1 large size is actually a bit more knife then it seems. its not the tank the zt is, but its sure not a light weight. dont let the button lock fool you, its a solid performer.

i have the extrema ratio mfo, and its what one would call a large small knife. thick blade, thick handles. its a nice package though, neat flipper.

seems to hold up pretty good but mine has not seen that much pocket time yet.

Do you have any pictures of the knife with the blade open?

I have decided on a Tactility and can't seem to decide between the quince wood and corian.

And, I think I am going to stick with the ZT as well.

In terms of small sebenzas, I can't decide if I want to find an insingo or a traditional one.

I had a wooden one and it was plenty durable. It would take YEARS of carry before you would notice any wear.

Think about the wooden handled steak knives at popular restaurants---they go through steam dishwashers 20+ times a week and still last for years.

elkins45-great point about the steak knives and I am glad to hear that your impressions of the Mcusta wood was that it is durable.

joewest69- thanks for posting that link. I had seen that a few days ago during some BF reading; however, I couldn't get it again through searches.

I have decided to go with the quince wood tactility, the ZT, and I am still nailing down the smaller folder-however, the ZT and Mcusta are on their way.

Thanks for all of the help.

The Corian rocks IMHO

I'm a day late...but my ZT0302 felt a little too big for me too, I sold it, and I do want to pick up another at some point...but I got a ZT0350CB, and it is fantastic.
