Meadowlark and Cara Cara (2) In Pocket Comfort vs Blade Length

Hello, all -

I've been going through the archives looking specifically at the reviews and comparisons for the Byrd Meadowlark and the Cara Cara plain blade versions. I've been carrying a CRKT M16-14SF on a regular basis but want something a little more utility oriented (not to mention something lighter and easier to maneuver around in the pocket). Plan to use it for general utility cutting/urban carry with the understanding that it will also be a last resort self-defense tool. I've seen a lot of good, informative reviews of both blades but have yet to see any that discuss the tradeoff between ease of carry and SD concerns.

Is the Cara Cara FRN easy enough to maneuver around in a pocket that it warrants the extra blade size?

Is the Meadowlark close enough in blade size that its convenience for EDC makes up the difference between it and the Cara Cara?

Not looking for a prac tac evaluation of each, more just an impression of them in this particular tradeoff.

(Bonus if you have an opinion of them held in both forward and reverse grip.)

(Yes, I know that the Delica and Endura are close cousins and better QC, but either of those will have to wait for now...)

Thank you in advance.

I have both and if I had to choose only one I would choose the cara cara over the meadowlark. As far as QC I have nothing but good experiences with the byrd line and the price point allows me to purchase a duplicate knife. I am a firm believer in thw two is one and one is none tactical doctrine.

I think it will mostly come down to what feels comfortable in your hand. I also have both but prefer the Meadowlark 2. I prefer it for the same reason a Delica rides in my pocket over an Endura. It just feels better in my hand. I have friends that prefer the Endura because it fits their hand better.
Clipped in pocket I don't feel enough difference for it to matter really. There's a difference but after carrying both I don't notice the Cara-Cara feeling too large in pocket.

my cara cara 2 feels pretty small in my pocket compared to my police. I like it and would recommend it.

I like longer blades, so the Cara Cara is a no-brainer for me. It carries well and cuts great, with the ability to take a deadly sharp edge.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I appreciate your input and the benefit of your experience.

I've ordered a Meadowlark 2 FRN primarily because I need something I can legally carry when I visit family in Colorado but given all the recommendations for the Cara Cara I'll probably pick one of those up as well once I'm back to being paid again in January. At these prices it seems like it will be well worth it to have both.
