I'm looking to buy a spyderco byrd meadowlark or another cheap folder around $25 with about a 3" blade. Is this a good choice or do you have a suggestion for a better knife. I've seen gerber paraframes, are these good knives.

MOved from the traditional forums

Might want to take a look at the Ka-Bar/Dozier folding hunter line - that's another one that's right in there. I have both and find that the Meadowlark is just a bit heavy (but then again, I carry several folders :). It's a great value in any event. No regrets in buying it for sure.

I have a Byrd , the steel scales were different getting used to and the knife is made in China to boot , but it is a lot of quality for the $.
Opens and closes smooth , lock is very firm , it came "spyder sharp" out of the box and has been easy to maintain the edge. Now a huge fan of serrations I got mine without.
All in all I think it is one of the least expensive , quality bargains in knives.

Haven't really used mine for much (picked it up to get a first-hand look), but what I've seen really impresses me. It's extremely well-made for the price. If you know you're okay with the size and SS handles, you'll definitely be happy with the knife. I mean, if you _can_, save up and get a Delica. But if you really want to keep it in this price range, the Meadowlark'll do everything you need it to.

Great knife, especially for the price. A bit on the heavy side due to the metal handle, but on the other hand that gives it a nice heft.

I going to agree with Gordonk. If the K Bar looks to suit you, that would be a good choice. Also look at Camullis Blaze, good steel and you can take out the assisted opening "bar" if needed.

*Camullis is a little more than your price (sorry) I just like that knife.

Check out one of these for $26.99, or if that's too large then look at one of these for $22.99.

That's only at one store... I'm sure if you shop around a little bit you can find them even cheaper.

Can't beat getting a Benchmade for a price that's less than the comparable Spyderco (don't get me wrong, I like both, but hey...).

Peace.
Alex.
