Meadowlark question

I've been using my full SS Meadowlark for a while now, and my biggest complaint is the pivot pin. As Cliff Stamp pointed out in his review, this one has also become loose now and then. Just a light tap with any object will correct this and tighten the handle halves up. Now, if I can tighten the knife this easily, would it loosen up easily too? Yes it would, and it does. To be honest, I'm a bit dissapointed on how this knife doesn't take heavy use well.

I'm asking for ideas on how to remedy this problem. I tried to replace the pin with a screw and nut, but it didn't turn out good as the blade wobbled up and down when locked -the screw was too small in dia. I guess. Please, tell me if you have any suggestions.

Yes, the SS handled version is the only one I know of that doesn't have a threaded pin or is a plain, pressed-in pin. The FRN and G-10 versions have screw-down pivots, and that makes them more durable in sense of loosening up.

for a $15 all SS knife I'm not sure what the complaint is... :p Especially since as you've mentioned the problem is easily corrected. I also have a meadowlark and this issue didn't bother me. The deep hollow grind and thick spine on a small knife definitely bothered me - which is why I really don't like the knife and won't carry it anymore.

More importantly. What holds the two handles together on these Byrds? Can't see any screws or rivets!

Well ok, it is a cheap knife. But where I bought it, it cost 39 euros, and I think that is a bit steep for a knife that doesnt take abuse.

On the SS version there are only pins holding the knife halves together.

Too bad that's the only store in Finland that I know of that sells Byrds...

Anyone can point out some European distributors? Please?

Look at the handle side with light reflecting off of it. You should be able to make out the outline of the pins holding the handle together. The pin outlines are very faint on my Meadowlark so you may have to look REALLY close.
Start with the front pin which acts as the lock's pivot. Mine is approx. 7mm in front of the lock.

Hope this helps.

I have to give credit to the folks at Byrd. The fit on these all steel folders is tight. I have to look hard to even see the back spacer on my Meadowlark and Caracara.

Who says the knife won't take abuse? I've yet to read of any substantial complaints against the Byrd knives.

Who? The guy you're quoting. Cliff also noted the same pivot failure in his review of the Cara Cara.
