Mean Street blade damage?

Jerry, et al:

The other day what I thought was a scratch/smudge, whatever appeared on my black blade. Today I suddenly realized it seems to be a gouge, a nick, a chunk - more than a scratch, in other words. I can’t tell if it’s just damage to the coating or what. Any advice? (I’m posting here because an e-mail I sent to someone I thought was connected to the company, on another subject, was never acknowledged or answered.)

Anyway, I’m wondering if there’s something we/you can do to repair the damage.

Hmmm, a gouge you say?
My advice, open a few beers with the spine and tap a few stubborn deck nails in with the pommel and the damage should blend right out

Yeah, I suppose I sound like I’m being prissy about the blade, but I guess I’m surprised to see a piece of the blade coating or whatever just flake off like that.

If piece of the blade chipping off is all part of this nuclear mystique, then fine. I somehow got the notion the whole nuclear thing meant the blades were damned near indestructible.

No big deal, I suppose.

Oh, and Kev: Thanks again for the sheath. It works just fine!

Hey Jim...

They are pretty much Bomb Proof...

The coating however will come off...
I'll also suggest taking the MS out and kicking the crap out of it to even out that marred finish...

BTW Jim,, is that the MS you were suppose to send me for sheath work ??

Jim,

It is difficult to comment on the scratched coating without seeing it. All coatings will scratch, gouge or chip. However, we have been very impressed with our new wrinkle finish, as it appears to be the toughest coating we have encountered to date. Do you have the old smooth finish or the new wrinkle?

I have to agree with some of the homespun wisdom that has been imparted by the others. It is true that your current scratch will look much better if it has some company.

We do recoating at a nominal fee, but I would recommend pounding the sand out of your blade first

Jerry and co.,

Thanks. That’s all I really needed to know, that it was most likely the black coating. I’m not concerned with appearance, I just wanted to make sure pieces of the blade weren’t flaking off. It seems to be a smooth coating, although the choil and pommel seem to be a bit textured.

When I got this in trade, it was in perfect condition, but it has no markings on it at all and was not sharp - hell, I even wondered if it was a counterfeit because of those details.

Eric, yep, that’s the one. I got sidetracked. Still want to do that. I’ll e-mail you.

I'd be amazed if the chip or goudge were from the blade. That would be big news, actually.
It must be coating, unless you were fighting with aliens or something

. After Jerry's post there's nothing I could really add, but in my modest experience I would say that the coatings I have seen do eventually come off but the coatings on the Busse E's are some of the best I've seen. There must be a post somewhere about the state of the art on coatings etc. If there isn't, there should be.

Hey Cliff,
I have to ask, what is up with the Respirene C in that photo? I see that you have it wrapped but what about the white spots, is that paint or did the Respirene C change colors? Also what is the notch on the top of the blade by the handle?
Thanks
Eric
