Mean Street Ergo vs Park Ranger?

Comparison photos may already have been posted, but I couldn't find them. So, sorry if I overlooked...

A few months ago I snagged a Mean Street Ergo LE. Then along comes the Park Ranger, which looks similar in some respects and kind of fills the same niche. So if anyone has both, I'd really like to see some side-by-side blade and spine/handle comparison shots of the two and comments from users. Thanks!

I'm not at home now, so I can't post a pic atm, but I'll just say that they are very different blades to me. They may be a similar size, but you might as well be comparing knives from two different makers, as the feel is incredibly different in hand. The Park Ranger also has a significantly beefier blade, I think. I guess for me--PR=better hunting/skinning knife... MSE LE=better carving and EDC knife.

I don't own a mean street ergo, but what I love about the park ranger is that the blade is the same thickness as my mini mean street (.145) The blade is only .05 inch wider than the ergo, but the handle looks wider on the park ranger.

The MSE was my favorite smaller Busse until the Park Ranger came out. PR blade is just a touch longer but it's considerably wider. I used an MSE to gut a deer and it didn't quite do it for me, so I'm hoping the PR will do the trick next season. Here are a couple shots of the profile and spine. My MSE is the BG version. On the spine shot I tried to align the choiles for the picture even though it looks like they aren't aligned.

Thanks for this input and for the comments. I think similarities are easier to see just looking at specs, but it's hard to tell the differences without seeing these comparison photos or having both models in hand. That's what makes this forum so valuable.

Thanks for the comparison pic UNRL! Since the MSe was too small for my paw, I am very glad I passed on the PR. Stick a mudder res-c handle on the PR INFI blade and I would be all over it! :D

Thanks for the pics and starting this thread. The MSe is basically small for my hand. Even though I’m looking forward to my PRs. I have a feeling now handle area will be tight. Still love the look of the PR :-) :-)

I really REALLY wish the sykco skinner would have been at the thickness of PR. Plenty more slicey, and don't feel I could break the blade unless really tried and did something foolish. Park Ranger is awesome. Favorite "4 and under Bussekin I've had.

No doubt. I bought 4, 2 Double Cut and 2 coated. Only regret is that I didn't get a satin. I have heard some people complain that the handle doesn't fit them but I wear an xl glove and if fits me as well as my 11 year old daughter. Can't wait to give her 1 for her golden birthday this year.

had a MSELE, sold it

have a park ranger, keeping it.

MSE is a great edcm very good for tasks like opening boxes or letters.

park ranger handles feel way better to me though the blade isnt as great at edc imo.

Both are superb knives. But, in my hand, I prefer the MSe.

Your loss is my gain. ;)

I like my Park Rangers a lot. But I will never sell that MSe.

I have to sort of nestle the angle at the pommel into the meaty part of my paw, otherwise the PR handle is too small for me. It takes a minute to get used to it, but I believe this was an intentional design aspect, and that most of us with hands that are glove size L and above will be able to appreciate the ergos if we don’t insist on choking up in a hammer grip.

yeah lol, i dont blame you. i didnt want to sell the MSE but i had to fund some gun stuff :D
Yeah, not trying to rub it in... I just really love that particular blade. It really sold me on the ergo handle for small blades. Of course they are great on the larger ones, too. :)

It is a bit small for me as well, but it actually fits better than the WTH handle did.

That being said, I am already planning on tweaking the handle a touch to get it just right. Probably a little off of the top of the butt of the handle and a choil mod (without sacrificing any cutting edge.
