i ask a couple of the great garu's about the mean street. here was the response for one of busse's finest knives... respect these guys as i had them flown in from rio just to consult and comment on this issue. please feel fee to share any knowledge you might have that would help in identifying the elusive MS!
now let me welcome the guest speakers, 1whoOinks and Eric the Porker,... please give them a big hand clap clap clap roar clap!
Here was the definition when they first came out, I've also included a couple of additional quotes about the LMS. These were all quotes from Prisco who was a dealer at that time
"The OFFICIAL Desert Warfare Mean Street
The specs are identical to the regular Mean Street except a) it's a little thinner, .230 instead of .250 INFI. b) Tan Micarta Handles
For those who don't know, this model is a variant Mean Street with Desert Tan, Diamond Quilted canvas micarta handles and a blade that's a little thinner than the standard Mean Street... .230 INFI instead of .250 INFI.
LMS
The price for the new, extremely limited in number, .187 MS is $227...just $10 more than the standard model Mean Street.
I am now officially taking orders and expect delivery of the complete supply in approximately six to seven weeks...
Handle is diamond quilted black micarta...tan is not an option. The knife WILL have a lanyard hole and the trademark talon hole.
"After months of planning, discussions, and production considerations, Jerry was kind enough to concede and allow me to procure an over-run of .1875 (3/16th) Mean Streets... here is a pic. I do not have any available at the moment, however, I expect a limited number from what was left quite soon....these have almost all of the robust qualities of the standard model
Mean Street, with a much thinner edge and blade grind profile. Real slicers and SCREAMING SHARP. Pricing might be a few bucks more than the standard MS, but I'm still working out the details."
I only use the DWMS term on ones that are tan quilted micarta and .230" thick. Many/most others use it for any tan MS. I disagree with using it for all tan MS's
MS's have come out in thicknesses of .187, .230, .250., and approx .3125
I hope this helps

"On the mean Streets Jerry used two different shades of tan.
There is the standard tan like you find on the rest of the e-handle line, and then there was a darker almost Maroon Tan used on the DWMS.
This dark Tan did make it on to a few regular MS's.
When I talked to Jerry about Tan LMS's he said he thought there were about 5 of them.(out of 117)
I think it's between 5 and 7.
The LMS's are 3/16"
The MS's are 1/4"
and the DWMS are .20"
There are a few 5/16th out there.
I only know of 1 satin 5/16th MS with Tan handles and of one LMS with Camo handles
I have only seen 1 LMS Prototype and Variants of the LMS are rare.
1/4" Variants are rare
and I've never seen a 5/16" Variant
On the early A2 MS, the metal between the handles were blued (gun blued) It's hard to find one with the bluing left.
Hope this helps...
