hey guys, I wanted to pop in and offer my thoughts on this knife.
I'm the owner and I forgot Ban even had this for a while - I'm bad about such things at times.
Anyway, the knife showed up today with a handy little piece of kydex which was set up for either a techlock or as I have it now, using a little piece of cord to IWB the knife.
It's no secret to anyone who knows me that I have a strong personal dislike for poorly executed sheaths or a lack of a sheath. To me, the sheath is as much a part of the knife system as is the blade or handle, and to skimp on one is just ludicrous. If a knife is made to be used, it has no business being unsafe or impractical to carry.
This sheath is form fitting, has a strong retention click, but at the same time offers a smooth, positive and fast draw. Considering the nature of the blade and the intended use, this is imperative for me, and all things considered Ban did a bang-up job on this sheath.
The improvements to the knife itself are staggering. The scales fit my hand impeccably and though after a few days of use I may hit them with a sanding pad for a final tweaking, they are exactly what I asked for. This knife is still heavier than some of my other carries, but this is a direct function of the full tang versus a skeleton tang or a tapered one. Given the point geometry and the overall build of the knife regardless of the new flat grind, I'll never have to worry about using it as a prybar if I need to. I spend a lot of time in and around poorly policed or maintained buildings and neighborhoods, and this attribute is of significant value to me.
The removal of the coating and replacing it with the satin finish and lighter blade is an improvement that should just be a factory standard. The edge geometry is now set up for cutting, but given the flat grind and convex edge (I'll admit I hit it with a BRKT block becuase I could) it should stay sharp as hell for a very long time, eat soft tissue for days and overall just be a fine carry knife for the next decade or two.
This is the first piece of infi I've been inspired to use and carry in a long time, and I think this one will stay with me for quite a while.
Ban, sorry this took me so long to get it back from you, but thank you for a job very well executed.
