Meaner vs BAD vs GW - your thoughts?

I'd like a small Busse to compliment my ASH and a BM of some sort.

I had a BAD but didn't like the black/red G10 scales so I sold it. Also, after having had the BAD, I'm not sure I want one that thin. I don't need a teeny sharpened pry bar, but I don't wanna have to worry about bending the tip either which was a concern with the BAD.

For those who have -used- all three, what do you like best and why - a thinner (but not necessarily a Leaner) Meaner, a BAD, or a thinner GW?

Comparison pics would be great too if you have any. Thanks.

I know someone who has a GREAT Banned AD with a thickness of .156", convexed edge, black canvas micarta and mosaic pins. ;)

They are all good. I have all of them and have used all of them around the house and in the field. They will all do a fine job.

It comes down to your personal preference.

If your hands are not too big, the GW is an outstanding choice. I find it fills my medium-size hands properly and it is extremely easy to do any camp or kitchen job with the right-sized blade ... which will sharpen to any level you could ever want. The GW comes in many different thicknesses, from 0.14" (hard to find!) to, well, railroad spike thickness! Since it's a Busse knife, you can do whatever you want with it and you need never fear ruining it. The GW takes up minimum space and it's easy to get a good sheath for it.

If you find the handle a little too small, then go with an AD of some sort. It doesn't have to be a thin BAD ... there are still plenty of standard thickness ADs out there. I love the AD, I have a ridiculous number of them -- my wife considers them the small Busse knife. It can do whatever you want and it's only a little bigger than the GW.

There are many, many different Meaner-class Busse knives. The old ones suit me best, but they are very $$$$ and also very hard to find. The handles are quite comfortable for most Meaner-class knives, and the blade is (again) only a 'bit' bigger than the AD.

So ... it's really up to you. It would be best if you could find a nearby Hog so you can handle these three classes of EDC first. Barring that, I'd recommend trying out a GW ... you should be able to re-sell it at cost.

A few pics.

Well, that's not much, but perhaps it will help you out a bit.

Huh??? Whatcha talkin'bout OP?

Getting back on topic......I'd recommend an AD variation of some kind, Standard, Miliganza or maybe a Heavy Duty (pretty rare, but no worries about a fine tip).
I prefer a drop point blade, so the MrS is out and the GW handle is just a bit on the short side. The AD is just right for me.

Here's a set of Heavy Duties (3), an Off Duty and three Custom Shop ADs....

I have the GW .22 pumpkin that I edc. It is definitely thick enough that I don't have to worry about the tip. That said, it is a bit thick for cutting apples, and such, and a bit short for cutting cheese. I had a red/black handled BAD that I really liked. Great slicer. I traded it for a medium sized Ash1, because there was a hole in the rotation there, and between the GW and a modded SS the BAD in a size that was covered. I wish I had traded the GW and kept the BAD, but I edc the GW because of it's length. In my state, anything 3inches or over is by statute a deadly weapon, and has to be carried in the open if you are worried about being charged.

The AD is my favorite small Busse design. I really need to get my hands on an AD with a 3 inch blade, and I would be in hogheaven!

I would also not leave the Cultie out of this conversation. For me it holds its own very well in this size range.:D

Hmm. Right you are, friend! I apparently linked in the wrong pic ... those are two nice GWs.:D

I like my Wardens...
.200 and the Fatty as well at .270 I think.

But that Miliganza Active Duty fits so well in the hand. :)
Choices choices...

Not sure what y'all are prying with such a small knife, but I've had no issues with the tip of the BAD poking around in wood, drilling holes for a fire drill, etc with it.
