Measuring Acraglas

All,
I have used Acraglas in large amounts for work on gunstocks and have had good results by using the measuring cups that come in the smaller packages. However, I need a lot less for a knife handle and I wonder how others mix in small quantities, particularly since the relative amounts are specified by volume. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I use Irrigation syringes that use no needles they are 3cc I think and are graduated for easy measuring. I had bought them from my dentist, was a box of 50 and so far I have only needed 1 for the hardener and 1 for the resin. I bought them originally for use in my farrier business.

You can get syringes at a good feed store. I used to use them but the scale is easier for me.

Brownells sells little measuring cups, I got some of those and they work well. I can measure out 5/8 of an ounce. This works well for 3 full tang knives or 2 narrow tang knives.

I use a 10cc syringe for the resin and a 3cc syringe for the hardener. For a full tang I usually mix 4 cc of resin and 1 cc of hardener. For a hidden tang I usually mix 8cc of resin and 2 cc of hardener. Sometimes more for hidden tangs depending of the job.

I have the Resin in a 60cc syringe, and the Hardner in a 10cc Syringe. both have caps to help prevent it from drying out. For one full tang (4.5" x 1.5") Handle and (1" x 1") Test piece I use 8cc / 2cc Respectively. I have used the Medical measuring cups and they worked fine as well, I just had a hard time mixing up small batches using them....

Good Luck!

Great inputs guys! It looks like syringes are the preferred way to measure by volume. I read the link and I am intrigued by weighing as well. I do have a good digital powder scale so I suspect I will try both methods and see which works best for me.
Thanks for all the help.

Throw down a piece of paper or something before weighing to keep the drips and drops off the scale.

Been using a 5cc syringe for resin and 3cc syringe for hardener since abut 1965. The hardener gums up the 3cc syringes pretty fast so pick up some extra ones.
