You can get the iPhone Dual Bevel Pro app and lie your iPhone on the edge, it will tell you the angle. If you're careful enough, it even works for convex edges.

good tip though!
The "angle" app by 'smudge apps' is a free tool. and does exactly the same thing. simple, easy to use.
I would not lay the knife on it, but it's very good for measuring and estimating angles or to get a feel for angles.
Better than a 'geo-triangle' measuring device imo.

I use a same sort of trick, see my stropping video for the thing I use (painting an angle on your strop), it also gives you a visual reference to the angle you want.

thanks for posting

Does anyone know how accurate the sensing unit in the Iphone is?

I understand that the app gives readings to a precision of 1/10 of a degree, but the calculation is only as accurate as the sensor, so how accurate is the internal sensor?

i'm not sure but the technology is very good. i guess you can counr on it being good at 1 decimal point precision.
a precision of 1 degree +/- .1 is way more than enough for everyone's sharpening needs.

I also found that the app (angle) is very good for practicing your angle estimating skills. just pick a rando angle and try to go there ( or the other way around). given enougj practice this will easily help you to get a very good feel for angles.
