I've seen on a couple of videos of someone using a metal plate that they insert a blade into. The reference cut outs have different angles allowing the user to measure what the bevel is. What are these called and where can I get one? Thanks in advance.

edit...similar to this one.

I had a thread about the one that blunt linked to.

I doubt you'll find the Spyderco.

If you buy the brass one let us know what ya think!

I have the brass one, it doesn't work for 90% of my knives. The angles are nice and accurate, but the cutouts at the tip of each angle are actually thicker that most of my bevels. The sharpened bevel slides right through, and I end up measuring the angle of the grind :grumpy:

Thanks man (even though I'm not the op lol) I wondered if that might be an issue. All of my bevels are wonky in some way anyway.

I'm guessing it's better used on woodworking chisels and such.

It does work if you slip a parallel plate in there, but its kind of a pain to hold the gauge, plate, and knife while checking angles :p
