Ok...

I completely forget what they are called otherwise I would do a search. Looking for advice on one of those measuring doo-hickies. Some to measure thickness and inside diameter.

What do some of you recommend? Not looking to spend a fortune as INFI funds take priority, but then again, I have never been one to cheap out for the sake of having something even if it's crappy...

You're looking for a dial caliper. They can get pretty expensive, but you don't have to spen a fortune for a decent one. I personally prefer the mechanical ones, but alot of people like the digitals. I have a few, and I almost never use my digital. Not sure where I even got them. I've just gotten them over the years.

The one I currently have next to me is marked "Dillon Precision". Works good and I like it.

JN, If you have a Harbour Freight Tools in your area, they have a dandy digital that does both. I believe it's Cen-tech. When on sale they're around $12. Here's a pic of the one I have, it does both inside and outside caliper.

You can keep the calipers, send me the Badger. :D
I think it would go nicely with my meager collection. :foot:

I recommend these polymer ones as they are less likely to scratch your knives.

Great suggestions guys!! Thanks!! Ordered the plastic Cen-Tech. At $7.99 from Harbor Freight, kinda hard to beat!!

I bought a Mitutoyo 6" Dial vernier caliper off ebay a couple years back when I started working in tool & die. Got em off ebay for about 60 bucks, new - which is a steal!

These are high quality vernier calipers tho, have to rely on them daily for extreme accuracy. If I was just gonna buy some to muck about with, any hardware store brand would do.

I personally dislike digital - easier to read but I don't trust them as much as dial vernier calipers.

I also distrust digital verniers.

I plan on getting some but I'm looking at about 50AUD, which is about 1/8th of a new Busse...

I don't think I can do it at the moment
