In the past i have found meat cutting bandsaws pretty cheap are they anygood for cutting steel/wood.The only thing i can think of bad would be peices of meat on the inside :barf:

Blade speed is probably more like a wood saw than a metal saw so it probably wouldn't be much good for metal as teh blade would move too fast, but with some modifications it could probably be slowed down to an appropriate speed. All teh ones I've ever seen were stainless, so it will likely never rust. The were also all sheet metal construction like my Dayton so they won't have the most rigid blade guides, but if the price is right, jump on it!

They run at about 700RPM. Faster than a metal cutting bandsaw and slower than a wood cutter, though it will cut wood just fine with the proper blades(I used my metal cutting bandsaw for years to cut wood and its only 200RPM.

Thanks guys,
I dont know much about bandsaws. It's one of those tools that is high on my list.

Meat cutting saws are nice, they generally have enough power to do almost anything you want with them, but the blade guides can wobble, and cause the blade to twist more than a wood or metal bandsaw. The guides can probably be reinforced, although I haven't tried, perfectly straight cuts were not necessary at the butchers. the meat still tastes good :)
