I got the Kiri sometime ago but the deer-skin wrapped piece is a brand new acquisition, made from the impeller blade from the turbine of a C5A Galaxy.....a very special ti alloy.

Super-light, extra-thin, razor-sharp.....[emoji106]

The kiri looks so funny next to the newer knife! X] What the heck is going on there!

It's true, the turbine blade alloy is featherweight, and strange even for titanium. Thanks for posting them. :)

I'll be interested to read your impressions of the alloy, since this is the first hardened blade Sam's done in it. I know my experience with the chopper in the same alloy has been really impressive and mine's not even heat treated yet .

Thanks Storm Crow, as you can see I'm still using that wrap pattern I jacked from your Mongolian sword video. It works so well with leather!

WValtakis - That knife was subjected to just a minimal probing of heat treatment, just so gauge how responsive it seemed (more than expected). It was too thin to go crazy with just yet, made from the most delicate distal edge of the turbine. It sliced up thick leather pretty well.

I skived the deer hide tie you used to half its thickness and left the two pieces attached ......like butta. :)

Yep! ^
A Ti edge can easily shave hair. The late John Moore recommended the Ti edge to be buffed, polished.

Lycosa - that definitely seems to a a good way to go about it.

Dawkind - That's great to hear. I hope you don't mind if I add a couple more photos, for size reference and to show where it came from:

I dig that knife a lot. Kind of a mini version of mine, shape-wise. I have envy for a lot of your knives, Dudley, but I love this one (and my birthday is coming, lol :) )

Mecha - Cool! Glad the video helped out.

The sword hilt I first saw it on was Mongolian, and used a small, round, green-colored cord. Some years after figuring out the basics of wrapping it (I continue to refine and learn what mistakes to look for), I found out it is also an older style of tsua maki on Japanese swords, particularly tachi. Their term for it is "hira maki".

Thanks for the info. :]

James is doing his book learnin. :)
btw, Reese Wieland did my CQC7 Ti edge with a 320 grit belt and it shaves hair. Data. :D
