Mechanics of adjusting a spring?

I'm not shy about taking advantage of the liberal warranties provided by Case and GEC, and if I have a knife with either a very weak spring or an overly strong spring, I'll send it in for an adjustment. Every time (that I can recall) the knife has come back much improved.

Can someone with knowledge please explain to me the actual mechanics of what they do at the shop to either strengthen or loosen a spring?

Thanks,

Andrew

My guess would be they replace the knife with another off the line with the same scale material, or replace just the spring(s).
I suppose ot would boil down to which option would cost them the least in time and dollars.

I have assembled and disassembled s coupla slipjoints, to make a lighter pull I removed metal from the spring. To make the pull stronger I would assume one would have to replace the spring.

Thanks, gents. And abcdef, I appreciate the link---some interesting reading there.
