I'd like to get a recommendation on a Busse med. slicer. I won't chop with the knife unless I have to. I like the Badger Attack. Is the ASH too thick? ANYHOO, in-put please.

Hell Razor, unless that's too big --- then look for an old school SJ...

anorexic badger attack 3? Maybe a ZTNO, did they make E-handle badgers in the ZT series?

ASH1-LE, HR, BATAC, Leaner Meaner-a little smaller but a great slicer.

the ashle would be perfect. the batac cg would also work. i have a batacle that i used for food prep, and it is a bit thick to be real efficient, though it did work fine.

there are also many hard to find older models that would meet your needs.

Ooh, if only!

The LE ASH-1 would be a better slicer than the CG version. The BATAC is less than ideal, but will work. I think your best bet would be either the ZTNO or ZTSH.

I'll torment you with MY slicer:

There's only one of these. 1/8" thick and 7 1/2" long, with a zero edge.

CG SJTAC

3/16 thick, 6.5 inch blade, lightweight but can still do a little chopping, much better at it than the BATAC. I keep the edge at around 12 degrees per side and she will split a hair.

BATAC! Since you said “I won't chop with the knife unless I have to.” Then go for the BATACLE! Just in case you have to do some chopping… ;)

Yes, I love the BATAC and my new LE- but I have proof for you that even if the blade is thick- it slices very nicely. Like this thin paper receipt and a tomato:

But it really depends what you will slice? Sure I could slice sushi with my BATACLE, but if I will do it several hours everyday- I might go for a thinner knife. :D

Thanks for the in-put everyone and the pics! I wrote everything down. Now, I'll get busy and weigh all the options. This won't be easy.

Lycosa, I didn't see any length, grip specifications, so why not go with a Cultellus, seeing as that was MADE to slice?

Gatman---I have a GW, incoming. I wanted to go with a longer blade while I'm in the woods, roughing it. I think a 5 to 7 inch blade would cover all those needs. What do you think?

ASH1-LE, BATAC-CG or Sus Scrofa would be my pick from recent offerings. I'd go with the ASH-1-LE if cost is no object. Scrofa if your wallet doesn't runneth over.
EDIT: Oh yes, I forgot about the Cultellus. It's not quite "medium size", but it is an excellent slicer.

There are a few CG SJTLE's on the exchange right now for 380. They are coated blades, but may be very close to what you're looking for. I find that most of the blades in that size tend to be pretty thick...at least .20. You may want to look at Fehrman's Shadow Scout as well. http://www.fehrmanknives.com/knives.htm

That knife also has a firebow built onto one side. Great knives.

The Scrofa might be great if you can get it modded to be a wharncliffe style blade. That might be ideal.

If we're tormenting, then I'll recommend an Anorexic Badger Attack LE.

Otherwise, CG BATAC is a good way to go.
