Today at 9:37 AM, my new Marauder arrived at my door. Like the title says, this is a BRAND NEW Medford Marauder in 3V steel with a beautiful rose Vulcan tanto blade. Instead of blabbing about it here, I'll post the pictures first, and anyone still interested can read more about it below the pics
I am completely and totally blown away. The quality of this monstrous folder is second to none I've handled before. Everything is snug and tight. Detent is VERY interesting. Light, but heavy. Very easy to deploy with your thumb near the top of the groove (near the blade tip) but nearly impossible at the other end. Stays in place without causing trouble during deployment. Not easy to describe. Blade centering is perfect on a seemingly microscopic level. Very early lock up. The blade is made from cpm 3V, indicated by the "3" on the blade next to the Medford logo. This was a really big deal to me. I know d2 would have worked just fine and s35vn is great steel, but I really wanted to go with what i considered to be the pinnacle out of the three. I think it also adds to its appeal. The Vulcan finish on the blade is wild. Mostly dark red that turns to orange/yellow and slightly green near the edge. Depending on the lighting, the colors look vibrant and sometimes faded in a very satisfying way. The grind lines are beautiful and without flaw. The handle scales have a newer version of Medford's "tiger stripe" flame finish. Almost looks like talon slashes in the scales. Parts of these "slashes" can reflect in a sort of bright electric blue way, which is awesome to look at. You'll notice there are two other features that make this Marauder more unique. First, the spine is polished. I absolutely love it. Fantastic contrast to the red blade. Also, my finger grooves are tumbled and flamed like the rest of the scales. Not polished like you normally see. The edge is flawless. Absolutely 100% symmetrical, and screaming sharp. The lock bar is heavy, and requires a decent amount of force to move out of the way. This is nice because the lock up is so early, I would otherwise be concerned. It's very difficult to describe the feeling of it in hand. The balance is directly below the pivot, where your pointer finger would fall, which is spot on. Feels like it was put together in a place where there was more gravity. Sounds strange but it really is just so solid, I can't describe it. I am beyond happy. Anyone considering a Marauder should know, you will not be disappointed. This is an extremely high quality folder. Enjoy the pics and post if you have any questions or comments!
