Hello everyone.

I am currently eyeing up a Medford praetorian Genesis T. I have a very specific color combo I want so I'll have to wait for somebody to get one back in stock but the main question I have for you is which blade style did you go with and why? Drop point or the Tanto?

It would be a hard use edc for me. I don't abuse my knives but don't baby them either. I really can't decide which blade to get. I really like them both but can't afford to own both.

I am leaning towards the Tanto because My other knife ( Medford Colonial) is a drop point.

I went with a drop point. I just think it's a little more useful for most tasks, and easier to sharpen. Get what you like though! Greg puts out some nice knifes.

All great points. I think the only thing that makes me want a drop point is the ease of sharpening. I guess I will have to go with the tanto. Now that I think about it the Praetorian with a tanto blade is the quintessential Medford knife. Thanks for the help everyone.

I have a drop-point, myself. I enjoy owning the knife even if I don't carry it that much. I haven't had to sharpen it, but I believe the drop-point will be ultimately easier to sharpen than a tanto blade shape would. Your mileage may vary!

Both are exceptionally capable blade shapes, in a rock solid overall knife. As thick as the blade is, this knife is still very sharp as it comes. I wouldn't have an issue using the Praetorian in either a utility OR defensive role, and don't believe the tanto blade would be that much better in either. So, get which blade shape that appeals to you most, and then post up a pic when you get it!

I've been looking at the Praetorian too lately. I like the overbuilt style and unique look of it. Although , I do have some reservations about paying so much for D2 and G10. But I love a good hefty Ti frame lock.

Anyway , how is the workmanship and fit&finish of Medford knives ? If the quality is of a high level then I'd gladly pay.

It is first class F&F. Medford tolerances are some of the best in the business. He and his staff are first rate machinists.

Got a tanto on my full sized T and I love the thing. Personally i think the tanto completes the medford knife look and also balances the knife better with more beef and weight at the tip than the drop point does. only praetorian i'd get with a drop point would be a micro.

That's good to hear. My two usual dealers don't seem to have in stock the full size Praetorian. I'll have to look around online. Maybe BHQ or KC has them.

I have owned 2 Praetorians, a G with a drop point, and a T with a Tanto blade.

Used both of them as I would any other knife.

I honestly can't say I liked one more than the other, or found a huge difference in blade performance based on the difference in grind. Both knives had exceptional F&F and performed as very capable EDC knives.

I think this goes back to what you prefer, and how you use your knife. I can make a Tanto or a DP work for my uses, what I would really love to see is a Wharny version....

I ended up with a Praetorian Stealth. I absolutely love it and carry it just about everyday. The tanto blade has handled every EDC task I have thrown at it. I did want a Genesis but got tired of waiting for an all black tanto so I thought id try the Stealth despite having some reservations about it being the full size model. It carries in the pocket much better than I thought it would. I may still get a drop point in the future. If only my money tree would grow faster...
