The Blade HQ description of the Medford Smooth Criminal says, “This flipper knife honors its name with incredibly smooth opening action.” Actually, it is by far the most difficult knife to open out of 20 or so flippers that I own.

I have an archery scale that measures peak force from 1 to 50 pounds. The Medford takes anywhere from 2 to 7 lbs of force to open. No other flipper that I own takes as much as 1 lb.

In other respects, the Criminal seems to be a good knife. What experience have you other folks had with it?

Have you tried perhaps contacting BHQ and asking them what they think, and potentially getting a replacement?

That's a knife name that would give any defence attorney fits.

"The defendant then raised the Smooth Criminal-"

"Objection! I'm certain that the ironic and playful name for this knife has no bearing on my defendant, smooth criminal, I mean Mr. Jones...we're so screwed."

I came across a review that says, "flipper tab size and/or geometry makes full deployment a chore," but the folks at BladeHQ say that the other Criminals they have in stock are OK. So I am going for a replacement.
