I want to buy a Medford TFF-4 anyone own or owned one can you give your opinion. I am a little off put by the price. I can buy another seb 25 for less. It looks really cool and the specs are impressive.

Mic77-

I have a Medford TFF-4 and I can give you a quick review. Of course, if you have any specific questions, I can try to answer those as well.

I've had the knife just under a year. I have the older style, with the false edge on the last inch or so on the top of the blade and handle with the green anodized aluminum presentation side of the handle. The newer versions usually don't have a false edge and are all titanium. If I have a chance, I'll try to post some pics later.

I'm serving in Afghanistan right now and my TFF-4 is in my pocket as I type this. That's as strong an endorsement as I can give. But this knife may not be for everyone. If you are looking for a flipper where the blade flings out as fast as you move your finger, this isn't the knife for you. I have to put a little wrist action on the knife to get the blade out. Every time. The handle is a block. This isn't a Spyderco or Hinderer that fits your hand like a glove. I've used the knife plenty and never had any "hot spots" develop, but others may prefer a more ergonomic grip. Finally, the blade length is a little short in relation to the handle. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of steel out there, but this is not a Caly 3.5 or BM 940, where every bit of cutting edge is maximized vis a vis the handle length.

I'd compare this knife to a 1911 pistol. The 1911 doesn't hold that many shots compared to other full-sized handguns. The grip is a bit of a block. It's not as ergonomic as some newer designs. It's maybe a little heavy. But for some folks, it's the only one that will do. Personally, I think this is great duty knife and a fine EDC. But I realize that it's not for everyone. But it's not produced anymore (at least it's not advertised on the web site) and almost no one has a knife like this. If you like having some exclusivity in your knife and/or see yourself as a 1911 guy, this may be a fit for you.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and best of luck in your decision.

BUDACODE

Budacode thanks for your service. Hope you are safe and doing well. Thanks for the review it answers most of my questions. My concerns are the ability to take it apart or adjust it and I'v read it takes time to break in. Again thank you for taking the time to post.

I have one as well and I really like it. If you're looking for a knife to take apart I would shy away from Medford. He's very clear that the lifetime warranty is voided if you take apart the knife. I've sent a couple of knives back to him for work and his turn around time is 1-2 days.

Taking apart any Medford knife will void the warranty. I've owned two Praetorians and they just didn't click with me. The disassembly policy put me off as well, I like to fully disassemble and clean any knife I own

Mic77-

I've never disassembled the knife. I sent it to Medford to have it tuned up before I deployed and the response was very quick, as I think I had it back in less than a week. As for break in, I guess I sat and watched an hour of t.v., opening and closing the knife. That's really it for break in.

Food for thought. I really like to strip a knife down if it gets wet or bloody. Mine will get bloody with small game and maybe even deer. The blade is D2 so it will corrode if not cleaned and oiled. I love the look of this knife and have been thinking about it all day but not being able to take it apart and voiding the warrenty may be a deal breaker.

I have 7 Medford's: Praetorian G and T, Viper, Arktika, 187 DPT, TFF1 and TFF1 Fat Daddy. Just as everyone has pretty much said if you're someone who has to take it apart then personally I'd keep looking. He's quite frank about that voiding any warranty. Like budacode said though, just sit on the couch watching TV and just open and close it for an hour for a few days and its broken in. His new knives are honestly pretty fricken dialed in at this point. If you get a knife with the clip that just says MKT you should be fine. I prefer those clips anyway. I haven't adjusted or had to send back a single one. If you can just buy it and use it I think you'll be fine though.

On a recent trip I skinned 2 Deer With a Winkler F1 and both times they needed to be disassembled cleaned and put back together so that going to probably be a no go for me. Which is a shame its a bad ass looking knife. But just for sanitation a folder should be cleaned after a gut job. O well. Thanks Guys for the information. I want one but its not going to be a good fit for me.:sorrow:
