Medford TFF 4 question.......

I recently received a Medford TFF4 that was for most part brand new. My question/problem is how in the world do you open and close this thing? For those who are wondering, the knife has a flipper tab, but is not truly a flipper. You just break the detent with the tab, the use the thumb grove or wrist flick to fully open. To close, the knife is meant to be "clawed" without rolling the knife over to expose the lock. Now my problem is the knife is new, and per instruction, you are not to lubricate the pivot. (I first thought this was a typo). Getting the detent to disengage has been a monumental effort to this point. I don't know if the knife is wearing, or my finger is getting stronger. But one it is open and locked, it's a two hand affair to get it unlocked. This has to be the stickiest lock I have ever experienced. I thought my Striders were bad.

I guess my question is : Does anyone else have experience with these knives and their break in, AND OR, anybody have any advice?

Remember, no lube, and I forgot to add, your not suppose to loosen the pivot.

Help appreciated.

Forgot to add.....I have already tried the pencil lead/Sharpee trick on the lock face. Didn't help.

It's my understanding that this is the norm for all of Medfords knives. It will be a pretty good knife, when it's broken in. Not to mention, I bought it for half (or less) of what it sells for. I'm not bummed, I just need to get it broken in.

I own a TFF 4 as well and it's awesome. I can operate with one hand with ease. It was very tight at first. One night while watching tv I must have opened and closed it 200 times. The more I play with it the better it gets.

You could always send it back to Greg to get it worked on. He does warranty his products for life as long as they have not been altered.

I own medford Marauder and owned a viper - all had the same issue, but it is a matter of time, keep open and close it- It will break in and when it does, you won't have issues with it.
The sticky lock - same- time, or use the pencil trick.
At the worst case scenario you can call to Greg, he will help you.

On the lubrication - they use Teflon grease, it is water replant, lasts for looong time, no need to lubricate.

Medford has multiple youtube videos explaining the break in period and what to do to help the process.

I have a TFF-4 to and the lock is the hardest thing to unlock out of any knife I ever bought or own or used. I had to send my 187 F back to Medford because I was having the same problems with the locking mechanism to
