Here is a dagger that I finished up. It is forged from O1 and L6. The fittings are french greyed mild steel. The handle is fossil ivory with 7' of twisted gold wire inlyed in it. The overall length from the point to the end of the pommel nut is 13 3/4", the blade is 8" long. The fossil ivory came from a smooth mostly white tusk that was almost he perfect size and shape for this project. I reshaped it a little and mostly was able to sand and smooth down leaving all the surface character of the ivory.
Orginally when I started this project I had planned to run the flutes straight with the handle. When I got ready to do the actual flutes I drew them on the handle and thought that the spiral flutes flowed with the handle better. Besides my five year old was there when I was laying them out and he informed me that all daggers should have spiral flutes and them gave me a look like I should know better.:)

Great piece Craig. Your son was right about the spiral flutes. My daughter is 7 and she knows almost as much as I do about knives. OK, you caught me, she knows more. LOL.

I laughed and laughed when I read your post. The boy does know knives! Plus he is a heck of a deer hunter:p Great looking dagger!

That's great stuff Craig. One of these days you'll have to submit one like that for judging
