all these models are between 3.75 & 3.87. two are newer releases that seem to mark a move by gec for slightly less robust carry knives.l to r. we have burnt stag linerlock--mdl73;the newer lockback mdl.72 in frontier bone; the slender trapper mdl48 in burnt stag & finally another linerlock 73 in smooth white bone.members will notice that although the liner lock 73 & the lockback 72 have almost identical frame shapes the frontier bone has a slightly deeper bellied blade. was confusing to myself till one places these next to eachother. dennis

Hey Dennis, do you have any of the equal-ends? I'd like to see some of the knives based upon that frame if you (or some of the other folks) get a chance. Not necessarily in this thread so as not to sidetrack it.

I've already seen the "moose" thread.

These GECs are my favorite sizes to carry. I like multi-blade knives so the 48 and 73 are great for me. I picked up a lockback now that the Northfields are finally out; I thought I'd give the yellow rose a try.

338375 the slender trapper is available in celluloid & some bones, you might have to search dist. sites for the stag since it was a fast seller.my off subject question to yourself: is the 338375 a wildcat cartridge? elliot here come the present equal end patterns in a few minutes. might as well throw them in since this subject is concerning frame & model dimensions. gec calls the = ends 53 & 54s. to this day i do'nt know the difference in a 53 & a 54 model. black mamba or joe bob can probably explain the enigma.

Thanks Dennis
No, 338375 is not a wildcat cartridge. Its my two favorite production calibers. :D
338 win. mag and 375 H&H

all of these are on the same frame, gec calls some 53s & some 54s. for my sanity i call them all cubans. left to right from top:stockman whitt /burnt grizz --standard muskrat in grits & molasses--trapper furtaker in burnt stag--musk furtaker in yellow rose---cobblestone stock whitt//this is presently only model in gec with this blade arrangement--big jack in burnt grizz--big horn moose in eggs & hot sauce---standard stock in rams horn--moose in buffalo horn.i'm not sure these complete the total blade variations in the cuban but it's close. dennis

Dennis, what are the pulls like on the Cubans? I find I have trouble with the Trappers and Scouts, are the springs on the Cubans as stout as those? I have a Half Congress and EZ-Open and do fine with those. Thanks.

most of the stocks [standard & whitt] seem to open easier than the others. however since these are large knives one can get a good grasp on the blades to facilitate opening.

Dennis are these all on the 4 1/8" or 4 1/4" (closed) frame?

Thanks for posting these. I find the equal end patterns interesting.

elliot all the cubans are 4&1/8 in. the weights vary from slightly less than 3.5 oz.to slightly more . the stock whitt has 3 fairly large blades & 3 backsprings probably the heaviest of the lot. of course the musk only has 2 slender blades making it the lightest. dennis

Thanks, Dennis. Appreciated, as always...

It looks like stockmans, muskrats and furtakers are all #53 patterns.

Big jacks, harness jacks, mooses and whittlers are all #54 patterns. Doesn't make sense to me either.

Nice pics, DS.

Got my first #48 slim trapper in yesterday; a blood red bone northfield. Stunning looking knife, and a really convenient size. Still like my pioneers, though.

Grits&Molasses is yet another tasty offering from GEC, looks very Old School too-in the right way! Fine knives Dennis.
