Good Day,

I find that there are very, very few knives of a middle or medium size that I like.

I find plenty of sub 4 inch variety that I absolutely love.

And big choppers that are well proportioned.

But, in the middle range, say 5 inches to 8 inches of blade, there seems to be not too much that I like.

What do you guys like in that range? Of course, images would be really great.

Busse 5&7,Cuda CQB1, Benchmade Nimravus, KABAR (several). I can recommend all of these, which are readily available. Would be glad to scan if needed. Regards, James

I recently got an AG Russell camp knife in the upper half of the size range you give. I really havent gotten to do much with it, but it seems to be a well thought out design. Its not to heavy, but seems to have a good balance for light chopping. Great edge for slicing and such. The handle is finger grooved, but only lightly. The finger grooves are deep enough to give you that grip security, but still shallow enough that you are not limited to one grip only....nice compromise. Seems to be a really nice all around knife at a good price from a company (AG Russell knives) that backs up their products. You might give it a shot if its what you might be looking for.

Busse Basic 5
Busse Natural Outlaw
BM Nimravus

I like and own all of these.
For some reason, I've really started wanting a chute knife, though.

Ripper you took the words right out of my mouth.

When I read the first post I thought, "Model 25". The Randall Model 25 is a great design.

I love the 3/16 Mad Dog Arizona Hunter. 6" blade.

For me, it is the optimum size for a hard duty knife that will not be expected to chop efficiently. It is very ergonomic, providing a lot of cutting power while still having good control over virtually all of the cutting edge. Lots of belly, lots of leverage, great ergonomics, very comfortable, very durable. One of my top five knives:

If you are looking for a cheaper one, try the Buck Nighthawk black-coated drop-point. Great knife for the money, it will stand up to anything!!!
