Just wondering what some good pry bars are or if they're pretty much all the same. I want somthing for general home improvement but also something I can take on trips with me to use as a "get the hell out of my hotel room" tool but also if something were to happen like a natural disaster that I could have something that could maybe pry a door open to take shelter or pry a car door open or what have you. I was looking at the fubars and although having a hammer would be handy, I wonder how useful they are compared to just a regular estwing pry bar. I'm thinking 12-16 inch long would be ideal and as light as possible. Any thoughts?

If you really want light, there are titanium crowbars, but they are very expensive. There are bunches of crowbars that would meet you description for around $12.
Check out your local Ace, True-value, Walmart, etc.

This is the perfect type of item to get from Harbor Freight.

I bought an entire set last year from 1' to 5' in length for a few bucks each. I have them around for earthquake & disaster preparedness.

I have a fubar, a dead-on annihilator, dewalt wonder bar, and dewalt 42" wrecking bar, among other demo tools.

For what you describe I would want the 42", the fubar works well and is smaller but its still just a beefed up hammer.

Small and light really limits effectiveness in this category of tool.

A co-worker had one of these, I still want one....Roughneck 14in. Gorilla Bar Jr., Model# 70-301. They cost around $12, and the taper on the tip is nice and thin at the tip. These aren't flat, nor round, they are oval, except for the pry tips. I imagine it would fit you needs very well.

If you want light and strong, sized to carry in say a GHB, Google Stileto Tools. Go to Ti pry bars and look at the 12" Ti Dimpler nail puller bar and the 5.5" Ti pry bar. They are $89 and $65, respectively. I have the Dimpler. It's a rear multi purpose tool.

Check out your local flea markets and yardsales. I have picked up a few made in the USA Craftsman bars for a couple of bucks each. They carry the same lifetime warranty as if I had bought them new.
